I have that. It's great. Only downside is it doesn't save high scores. Later models do.

    Thrift Store Finds

I am SOOOO jealous of that Paper Mario. I have been coveting that game for years, but the prices it goes for online would make your eyes bleed.
  3. Today's Nintendo Direct had several surprises. I'm really looking forward to the Link's Awakening remake on Switch.

  4. My local Gamestop has a pre-owned WiiU that I've had my eyes on for several weeks now, so I've decided to save up enough to buy it. I've got almost half the asking price of $129.99 now, and hope to have the other half by March.

I really want to get into the WiiU Virtual Console before Ninty eventually pulls the plug on it.

Oh, I already have a Switch, lol. I bought it on sale from Toys R Us last year when it was going out of business.

It was only 5% off, unfortunately, but hey, a discount is a discount.

To my understanding, the Wii U no longer has online support including the virtual console.  Any prepurchased content, even by a previous owner, is no longer downloadable.  Nintendo turned off their servers for the DS/DSi/Wii/Wii U consoles at the end of last month.  However, I'm not sure about the Wii U (I've thought about one, too) but there are some software modifications that can be done to a Wii to get it back online.

I got lucky with my used Wii as it mysteriously came with two digital games...Tetris Party and Super Mario World (SNES).  I still have them and they still work, just no online support.  I was using Netflix on my Wii on a SDTV but even Netflix said it would no longer work once Nintendo pulled the plug.

WiiU is still online as of now. In fact, they released a NEW game on the WiiU Eshop just last week. Shocking, I know.

  5. Sadly, I have no TV again, so no console gaming for the foreseeable future.

  6. Guess who just got himself an SNES Classic Mini!

Nice man! Enjoy! Now I'd personally mod it and put all the SNES ROMS on it but that's me lol.

What Are Your Retro Gaming Goals For 2019?

I'd be interested in your Intellivision stuff, man. I'm still trying to build my collection.

What Are Your Retro Gaming Goals For 2019?

My goal? Finally get a couple games for my Wonderswan Color, so it can stop gathering dust on my shelf. Also get a Sega Master System, or N64.
  9. While I don't have any valuable games, I HAVE been in this kind of position with another type of collectible. I like to collect a variety of things besides video games. (In fact, I probably collect too many things, but that's another story...) I'm an avid reader, and I like to collect antique books. Quite a few years ago I got my hands on an interesting old book called "Ver Beck's Book of Bears." Now, I didn't think too much about it. It had really nice illustrations, was a pretty old book, but didn't seem too special. A few years ago, though, I got curious and decided to look it up online. Low and behold it turned out to be an exceedingly rare volume worth up to $400 or more. That's a good deal of money for a book. I like it far too much to sell, though. It has more value to me than the money. I imagine if I found any truly rare, valuable video games, it would be a similar case, and depend entirely on whether I like the game more than the money.

Sad but doesn't surprise me.  Most of the stores I've visited in recent years looked tired and dated.  My hometown's store was not in a safe location and only had parking for a few customers.  Small store dealing mostly with hardware, appliances, and some electronics.  But it never got an update the whole 35 years I was there.  They did do small engine repairs onsite so that might account for their size.  The one that was in the area I live now was slightly bigger but very rundown.  Some of the items they were trying to sell looked like they had been there a few years.  Lawnmowers included.  They left May 1st 2018.  Nothing has tried to go in the spot they were at which is unusual for a small strip mall.

  10. Happy New Years, everybody!

Let's Imagine a World Without Emulation

I have no shame at all when I say I've downloaded roms off the internet. If that makes me a thief, so be it. At least I'm a thief who's actually enjoying myself. I downloaded roms of the entire Wii Virtual Console library when I learned the WiiShop was closing. No shame. My only problem is I hate playing classic console games on a computer with a keyboard. It's a right pain in the neck.
  13. So, I find myself in the market for a Sega Master System. Hoping I can find a cheap one online before 2019 is over.

2019 might be the year I look for a nice Sega Master System too! It's one of my favorite systems. I had a minty fresh one in the box that was stolen out of a storage locker along with many other items from my collection. My best friend had a Master System when we were in elementary school, and when I started retro collecting in middle school I was able to find a Master System II for $19 brand new at Kay-Bee toys with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in. But I always wanted a nice original Master System for my collection. Sega Master System along with TurboGrafx-16 round out the "unique" 8/16 bit systems with great graphics and sound that I love to play. I'll take a Master System over a PS4 or Xbox any day!

Looks like Sega might have dropped AtGames

About damn time, if you ask me. I made the mistake of getting an ATGames Genesis console. From what I later learned, the sound quality is completely screwed up.

    baremetalHW - Hot Wheels Restorations

Oh my, I have two that are hugely beat up. I didn't know they could be restored.
  20. I just found this video on Youtube, and it's very well made and informative. Thought you guys might appreciate seeing it.
  21. I actually thought the video did a rather good job of dismissing the tall tales of E.T. being the only factor that caused the crash. E.T. wasn't the cause, but it was undoubtedly a symptom of the troubled waters ahead, and a sign that not all was well in the house that Atari built.

    E.T.'s Unknown Port | GYCW

So hey guys, I just stumbled across this video on Youtube. While we all are aware of Atari's E.T. game, I imagine very few of us are aware that a computer gaming company in Great Britain (of all places) totally ripped off the same basic idea and gameplay for a PC conversion. (Stick through the full intro, guys. I know it seems at first that the video is going to follow the same old trope of E.T. being the worse game ever made, but it defies that expectation very early on.)
