  1. So, I find myself in the market for a Sega Master System. Hoping I can find a cheap one online before 2019 is over.

2019 might be the year I look for a nice Sega Master System too! It's one of my favorite systems. I had a minty fresh one in the box that was stolen out of a storage locker along with many other items from my collection. My best friend had a Master System when we were in elementary school, and when I started retro collecting in middle school I was able to find a Master System II for $19 brand new at Kay-Bee toys with Alex Kidd in Miracle World built in. But I always wanted a nice original Master System for my collection. Sega Master System along with TurboGrafx-16 round out the "unique" 8/16 bit systems with great graphics and sound that I love to play. I'll take a Master System over a PS4 or Xbox any day!

  2. I am SOOOO jealous. I've been wanting to get an N64 for awhile, but I can't find any good ones for less than $30.
  3. I got Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Kirby Star Allies for the Switch both for $35 at Walmart.
  4. Where'd all my feed messages go?

  5. About damn time, if you ask me. I made the mistake of getting an ATGames Genesis console. From what I later learned, the sound quality is completely screwed up.
  6. I just discovered a short, eight episode mini documentary series on Youtube called 8 Bit Legacy: The Curious History of Video Games, and I just had to share it with you guys. The episodes are all pretty short, usually 6 to 8 minutes, tops, but they are packed with fascinating tidbits of trivia and boasting production values that would make most Youtubers green with envy. In fact, the series was even Emmy nominated. Stand out bits include interviews with both Nolan Bushnell and Shigeru Miyamoto. Definitely check this one out. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMFGVXWuJ1C6mpl8BuTzkjOGIVpfsyPZ0
  7. I don't think it's been mentioned before now, but the SMS has ZERO region locking. A North American SMS can play both European and South American SMS games. (The one exception is Japanese games. For some reason NA systems won't play Japanese games.) The SMS was much more popular in Europe and South America, and there are literally DOZENS of games that never released in the US that are well worth tracking down. Brazil especially loved the SMS, and so many SMS games only came out there. The Master System is a dream console to import games for.
  8. I gotta get myself a Printer at some point. Such an awesome peripheral.
  9. The only downside is these videos make me want to explore these locations myself.
  10. Oh my, I have two that are hugely beat up. I didn't know they could be restored.
  11. I actually thought the video did a rather good job of dismissing the tall tales of E.T. being the only factor that caused the crash. E.T. wasn't the cause, but it was undoubtedly a symptom of the troubled waters ahead, and a sign that not all was well in the house that Atari built.
  12. I just found this video on Youtube, and it's very well made and informative. Thought you guys might appreciate seeing it.
  13. Those magazines!! I'm jealous.
  14. So hey guys, I just stumbled across this video on Youtube. While we all are aware of Atari's E.T. game, I imagine very few of us are aware that a computer gaming company in Great Britain (of all places) totally ripped off the same basic idea and gameplay for a PC conversion. (Stick through the full intro, guys. I know it seems at first that the video is going to follow the same old trope of E.T. being the worse game ever made, but it defies that expectation very early on.)
  15. Like the title says, I saw this today, at a retro game store. Didn't inquire about the price, alas.

  17. Reminds me greatly of the vision of the future that was on display at the 1964 New York World's fair. Optimistic. Clean. Efficient. Technology was going to make EVERYTHING better. Alas, why are we not living in that "Great, Big, Beautiful Tomorrow"?
  18. I love that footage of Horizons. Wonderful ride. Sadly gone now, along with The Seas, Wonders of Life, and Universe of Energy.
