#AtariDay is for everyone! Especially people who think of Atari fondly and want to experience more of the World of Atari :berzerk:

  2. Hiking in Joshua Tree National Park today. It's hard to covey the scale and vastness in photos.

Love this.  I've been once, a long time ago.  I would LOVE to go again and really appreciate your pictures.

It's a really special place; almost otherworldly.

  3. Tim Lapetino is the new Creative Director at Atari.

  4. PSA: VCS owners get one free game good through the end of February. Any game.

Check your inboxes for VCS insider and your one use code.

  5. From the maker of the excellent Donut Dodo comes Cash Cow  DX!  I highly recommend checking out the demo on Steam available now as a part of Steam Next Fest.  I didn't wrap up work until 9 (budget season) and as soon as I logged off, I downloaded this and played for 45 minutes straight.  With a game over every 3 minutes or so, that's 15 games! I did eventually make it to level 1-2. LOL

Anyway, if you like Donut Dodo, check it out !

We had to get out before the rain, so we headed to the local botanical garden. I like the otherworldly cactus section.

  9. Why is Road Runner for the 2600 so freakin' hard?!  It's killing my wrist!

It's pretty cool. Avoid Wile E. Coyote and eat lots of bird seed. It keeps your energy up. There are obstacles as well, like cliffs, bombs, etc. It's a good facsimile of the arcade version, for the A2600 anyway. Both the arcade and A2600 versions were developed by Atari.

  10. It was cool to see French Youtuber Manu Atari (GemTos) share out the ClubVCS Fanzine!

WHOA cool, I'm just now seeing this! Late last night I finished some back end "club" work on the site and before bed took out the Club VCS Zine and read through it again. I never expected a print edition would materialize so quickly and look so good. VCS players are extremely lucky to receive this kind of incredible support. I always think of the Amico guys out there who must feel so devastated about where things are right now, and then I look at the VCS community and think how fortunate we are to have this.

  11. My car is a total loss and I got my settlement valuation which met my expectations. I'm thinking of going with a certified used Ioniq 5 as it's the closest thing to Trapper Keeper on wheels that exists in today's market.

I'm going to be out test driving for the next several days. I have a rental until Monday.

@Sabertooth It has to be intentional. Lancia was an Italian marque that is out of production and not widely known in our part of the world. People with an interest in those types of cars or Rally racing from the 1980s would know the Lancia Delta as an icon. I was big into Sega Rally on Saturn when it first came out and drove the tires off of that little sucker. I think it's really cool that Hyuandi was willing to put this design into production.

I ended up pivoting after a few test drives. I went with a VW ID.4. It's the largest car I've had, but works well with my family needs. 3 years of free charging a few blocks away too. I take delivery tomorrow morning.

Nice!  Congrats. Have fun with your sweet new ride.

  12. Well, it looks like I'll be getting a car payment for the first time in a while. I loved my MINI S 4-door. It was more fun to drive than any car I've owned since my '85 Fiero. RIP little buddy.

MINI S is a good car. Do you think you'll get another MINI?

    2. Sabertooth

      Sabertooth

I loved the car, but it's doubtful that I'll get another MINI. As my daughter gets bigger it's become harder to get in and out with the car seat. So I'll probably go with something larger in the near term.

  13. I think this simple post on today's announcement of the Atari 400 has been my most viewed/liked post ever on X. Over 6k views, 130 likes, tons of comments and 24 reposts. Who knew the 400 MINI would elicit such excitement? It's bizarre.

It is weird!  Perhaps there's a huge untapped market for the 8-bit's.  It's been an ignored platform for such a long time.

"Atari laid the groundwork for console gaming as we know it today, so it was important for G FUEL to honor that legacy with a refreshing new flavor and one of the biggest Collector's Boxes we've ever produced," said G FUEL CEO Bryan Crowley. "We know that Atari fans will be spending hours exploring all that the new Atari 2600+ system has to offer, and G FUEL is the perfect way to stay energized and focused during those long classic gaming sessions."

  16. I did not share this earlier, but on Tuesday I was making my normal commute when I was hit in the intersection while making a protected left turn. The other driver ran the red. Fortunately, I'm just a bit sore and we'll see if my car can be repaired or not.

Two good samaritans stopped to check on me. They both were rushed for work and didn't stick around for the cops but promised to send their dash cam footage and contact info. Fortunately, both followed through. I can't quit watching it. If I was a split second earlier into my turn, my one year old may not know her dad.

Just a reminder to hold your loved ones tight and do not take things for granted. I lost my father to a drunk driver over 20 years ago. No one has a guarantee on tomorrow.

I just caught this @Sabertooth. I shared this with my Mom. When I was 18 months old we were moving to a new place, and my mom was hit by a drunk driver with her car full of framed pictures and fragile glassware. The drunk driver was driving with an already revoked license and hit her from behind on an overpass, scooping her car up and flipping it over an embankment and she was thrown from the car. She told me just now she can still remember the sound of the car wheel rolling right next to her head as the car rolled down the hill. I came very close to growing up not having known my mom, and I think quite often about how lucky I am that I got to live in this "timeline" where my mom is alive, and that things weren't worse for her. She miscarried twins shortly afterward which we always believed was related to the accident. I saw my mom at Christmas and showed her the Club VCS Zine and told her a bit about you and what you had done with the club, which - after having been my mom and going on this Atari obsession with me from the beginning - thought was incredibly impressive and really cool. I reminded her of you again tonight when I shared your story with her, and mentioned I'd share this story with you here. I'm glad you're okay, and that your family and little girl still have you. I hope the rest of 2024 is good to you.

Thanks for sharing @Justin. How horrible that experience must have been for your mother.  I'm happy that you're in the "timeline" where you grew up knowing her.

These narrow misses really put things/life into perspective.  I'm still processing this, both physically and emotionally, but I'm absolutely thrilled and eternally grateful to be here for my family.

  17. In case you're wondering, I said "yes."

  18. PSA: If you haven't checked out the VCS holiday sale, do yourself a favor. 50% off of many titles, including Atari 50, the excellent Recharged series and many awesome indie games.

I haven't!  My game room is occupied like a hotel room for guests, but it should be clear today.

      Thanks!

  20. PSA: It looks like the long rumored update to the VCS OS has finally hit!  It took me about 10 minutes to get through the update cycle.

No release notes yet, but there are some obvious changes to the font and brightness and volume control on exit & in the system menu.

I had a new unit and can confirm this fixes the new user update issue/experience. From stock BIOS to fully updated in 26 minutes!

This is great news for new users.
