  1. Six of the first ten Evercade carts are now "Legacy": Atari 1 & 2 Namco 1 & 2 Piko 1 Technos 1 Licensing is tricky. Recall, the Namco collections were intentionally locked from play on the VS because Blaze's rights were for handheld only. With Atari 50 and the My Arcade products, there may be an oversaturation of collections based on Atari-owned IP. Honestly, Lynx collections aside, I have not played any Atari collections other than Atari 50 since last November. There really is no need. What's interesting is that the games on the Lynx collections are mostly Songbird and Pixel Games UK (Epyx holder) titles. Maybe there is an opportunity for homebrew or third-party collections for Atari platforms?
  2. 4,315 on a modern VCS using a Classic Joystick Controller. Man, HARD mode is HARD!
  3. For many months, some VCS users have intermittently experienced a "zip code" error that prevents them from making digital store purchases. According to Atari, their e-commerce provider made some changes on their end that impact the API. A ClubVCS Twitter/X poll had 27% of respondents experiencing the problem. Fortunately, there now appears to be a workaround. When asked to enter your zip code first enter two (2) spaces and then your five (5) digit zip code. This should allow you to make your purchase as you normally would

For this challenge we're continuing our celebration of homebrew on the Atari VCS by playing DARE DEVIL by Muddy Vision (aka Lewis Hill)! Originally released for the 2600, the objective of Dare Devil is to glide down safely to the ground while avoiding the many obstacles you'll encounter along the way. Parachuting: Use your joystick controller to control Dare Devil Dave. Up will slow your decent a little, down will increase your decent speed, useful for zooming in and out of tight spaces. Left and right will slide Dare Devil Dave left and right so that he can manoeuvre between obstacles. Obstacles: There are many different obstacles that you will need to avoid as you glide to the ground. Hitting an obstacle means you will plummet to your doom. Clouds are harmless and you can pass through them without worry. Geese will not hurt you but they will push you off course. Balloons: There are different bonus balloons that you can pick up as you descend. Red Balloons will award 300 bonus points, Purple Balloons will award 600 bonus points, Green Balloons will award 150 bonus points + 4x score multiplier for 18 seconds (parachute flashes red), and Gold Balloons award invulnerability for 15 seconds (your parachute flashes white). Wind: Starting at level 2, you will have to contend with variable wind, which will push and pull you across the sky. Landing: It is important to ensure that you slow down by holding the joystick up in order to land safely. Failure to do this will result in a large crater and the loss of a life! Land in the circle for maximum points. Scoring: You score points as you descend through each screen, the further you go the more points you will collect. Landing as close to the centre of the landing zone awards extra points. Club VCS Recharged Squad Contest This game is the fourth title in our fourth Club VCS contest giveaway! 10. @Ballistik shared an article on his X (do we call it that now?) feed that Toys R Us is opening new stores! The plan is for 24 flagship stores to open across the country, plus smaller stores in airports and aboard cruise ships. It will be interesting to see if this new iteration of the iconic store is successful. Now having a little one, I am happy to hear that she may get to experience some of the wonder of a giant specialty toy store. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/09/29/toys-r-us-to-open-new-us-stores-and-airport-and-cruise-ship-shops.html Also, I read five or so articles about this and not one of them said anything like, "the current holders of the Toys R Us name." Not all iconic legacy brands get the same grace I guess.
  11. 32,820 with a Modern. My best ever run on the World boards is 77K but I have not been able to get there this time. Single Life mode is BRUTAL.
  12. Going through my boxed 7800 games to confirm gaps in the retail library. I have six left but they are the $$$ ones.

Here's also some loose oddball, repros, and homebrew from before they came with boxes. I'll have to get these from Marc eventually.

Thanks!  It was fun to take stock of my 7800 games. And yes, please share your collection when you change rooms.

  13. It's an interesting take on a tower defense game and fills a niche on the VCS. The twin-stick shooter elements and spherical playfield are pretty unique. It also has Classic spinner support. I've found that you have to grind a bit by replaying early levels for coin to build your stats before proceeding to later stages. In that way, the difficulty progression could be more balanced. Otherwise, it's a fun game. For $5.99, I'd recommend it.
