  2. 37,050 to get on the board! This was via a Retron77. Certain 2600 games glitch on my 4K through real hardware. 🙄 GCC did such a great job with this port. Everything that makes Joust is here. It's amazing for the time!

Everyone else will receive one entry! I'd like to encourage D.Joe to post this high score on the Scoreboard so we can make sure this Challenge continues on! Congratulations again to @D.joe on an incredible showing! (WOW!) Also, a big congratulations to the rest of the Squad! Thanks for participating and helping us to kick the year off right! VCTR-SCTR is a true love letter to Atari's classic vector games. I think that Digital Eclipse really distilled the essence of what made the games like Asteroids, Tempest, Battlezone, Star Wars and Lunar Lander so special. They created a brilliant homage in this reimagined mash-up! NOTE: Our next Recharged Squad Challenge is Neo Breakout! Be there!
  5. New to Neo Breakout? Check out this great video by @LinkYoungPS playing the game on the VCS!

  8. How many AV switches are in your original hardware setup?

    I have three: 5-in/2-out S-Video, 4-in/1-out component, 4-in/1-out HDMI.

The retro consoles run into a RetroTnk 2xPro to the HDMI switcher. They also run to a Samsung GX TV for light gun games. The modern consoles go to the HDMI switcher. HDMI for all consoles is out through an mClassic to an Avermedia Live gmGamer 2 Plus capture card to my 4k TV.

It is an exhausting setup and makes me want to box it all up and move to emulation...almost.

On my 1998 CRT Sony Trinitron I have one coaxial input and one Stereo RCA AV input, which I have connected to an external switch box that accepts 4 additional Stereo RCA inputs.

On my Sony HDTV I have 4 HDMI inputs, one component input, 5 RCA AV inputs, two coaxial inputs, and one optical audio input. It still doesn't like my Atari 2600.

  9. I had an '83 Concord. It was very reliable and easy to work on. Of course, it was just a slightly updated Hornet so the body styling was laughably dated by '83. I've always wanted a Metropolitan. This started production under the Nash badge before the merger with Hudson and formation of AMC. It was really America's first subcompact (although built by Austin in England). I've also always wanted a Gremlin. I love ugly hatchbacks. It was easily the best of the American '70s small cars by a mile. No Pinto fires there!
  10. This was a fair take and fun to watch! As I said in my YT comments, Atari really need to figure out what is breaking the update or throw a USB in the box. Also, I'd love to hear your take on BPM Boy if you get it. Lastly, check out our VCS subforum "Club VCS" for information on all things VCS. We have a monthly highscore challenge and prizes like controllers and pins. https://forums.atari.io/clubs/2-club-vcs/
  11. I had no idea but I'll definitely have to check it out! Thanks!
  12. Thanks. It was a really great gift! I'm on parental leave right now but intend to place it into active service when I return to the office next month!
  13. My better half gifted me with this awesome Atari lunchbox and thermos! Manufactured by Aladdin Industries in Nashville, TN circa 1983, it has graphics from Atari classics including Asteroids, Yars' Revenge, Warlords and Missile Command. The cool thing about this for me is that I actually had this same lunchbox in 1st grade. This is what I carried to school everyday nearly 40 years ago. I'm very stoked to add it back to the collection!
  14. Me too! You may know, but Missile Command on iPad (2020) was greatly expanded for consoles this past fall. It's really an entirely different game. If you dig the iPad version, check out the 2022 version for consoles.
  15. Release Date: March 9, 2023 Retail: $9.99 Developer(s): Sneaky Box Publisher: Atari Official Site Synopsis: In Caverns of Mars: Recharged you descend into tunnels beneath the surface of Mars in a mad dash to destroy the reactor and furthest depths of the enemy’s base. Dodge debris, clear out obstacles, and blast enemies, all while conserving ammunition as you descend at high speed into enemy territory. Your ammo is limited and enemies are plentiful, so make every shot count. The original Caverns of Mars was a hit that came out of nowhere. In an era of side-scrollers a high school senior named Greg Christensen developed a game where players descended vertically. The few vertical scrolling games that existed were largely skiing and driving games, but Christsensen made a space game, set in the tunnels of Mars. He submitted it to APX, Atari’s mail order software catalog. The day his project arrived in Sunnyvale it was recognized for its quality, and it became the very first APX submission to be released as an Atari game, and one of only a handful to ever make that leap. Features: Fully Destructible Environments Blast your way through obstructions, but be mindful of fuel reserves - each shot also accelerates your limited time to reach the bottom Arcade Traverse the three depths of Mars in a race to reach the bottom and destroy the reactor, strategically accumulating upgrades that’ll make each run unique. Power Ups Collect weapons that will change your strategy on the fly. Carve a new path with the focused railgun shot or leverage the spread of rapid shotgun blasts. Local Co-op In a unique spin on the gameplay, split the responsibilities while one player navigates and the other shoots from a separate drone in tow. Leaderboards Compete in global leaderboards for points or speed. Pulse pounding soundtrack The multi-talented composer Megan McDuffee serves up a lush and energetic sound track.
  16. Here's a preview from Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/mattgardner1/2023/01/25/atari-caverns-of-mars-recharged-comes-to-pc-and-consoles-in-2023/?sh=49ee0c13388b
  17. I appreciate that Atari went with another "deep cut" for this installment of the series. Like Black Widow and Gravitar, this was not on the radar. Its great that the entire IP catalog is being mined....Well done! Global leaderboards for this will be epic!
  18. It's official! Caverns of Mars: Recharged is coming to the VCS and other platforms on March 9!

Awesome news! I always loved Caverns of Mars, let's hope this is a good one 🤞

  20. When my daughter was born in August I changed my schedule to "work from home" a few days a week. Prior to that, I reported to the office everyday despite the new pandemic-inspired flexibility. Anyway, it quickly became apparent that my $60 Ikea desk chair would not work for 9-10 hour days. Immediately my backside was pleading for my Aeron. However, as comfortable as they are, I do not want an Aeron at home. So my search began...After reading a ton of reviews and conducting some in-person "testing", I settled on the Herman-Miller Sayl. The chair took a few months to be built so by the time I got it I was on my parental leave. While it hasn't been through the rigors of office work, i definitely put it through its paces with Atari 50! It's extremely comfortable for long periods of time and doesn't scream "office chair." They even make a gaming variant but the color schemes for that model are a bit too garish for me. (This coming from a guy that has rainbow spectrum lighting behind my Teal and white game setup.) If you're looking for a decent home office or gaming chair, check it out!
