  1. Well, the time has come to replace my desktop computer.  I have stretched its life as much as possible but no the DVD drive doesn't work, none of the USB ports work, it freezes when I try to copy and paste files...  I had not realized how old this machine was!  I've had it since 2011!  I believe it has provided me with good service for 13 years!

So, I just ordered a new monster computer from Dell.  I9 processor, 64 GB RAM, 4 TB hard in two hard drives, liquid cooling...the works.  Hopefully it lasts as long as this one!  LOL  I did get the extended warranty for the next 4 years.  The one thing I hate is having to transfer data from one computer to the other.  Thankfully, most of my stuff is backed up online, so that will make it easier to restore files.  But setting up programs is going to be a PITA!!!!  Wish me luck!

  2. My car is a total loss and I got my settlement valuation which met my expectations. I'm thinking of going with a certified used Ioniq 5 as it's the closest thing to Trapper Keeper on wheels that exists in today's market.

I'm going to be out test driving for the next several days. I have a rental until Monday.

You are braver than I.  While I'm all about new stuff and techy items, you cannot get me anywhere near the idea of purchasing an EV, especially a used one.

@RickR "Cutting that tie?"  How would I ever make it through the day without calling into Atari.io at least once a day?

As Tony the Tiger used to say, "I'm great!"  I got a whole 48 hours to myself with no work, no chores and no social obligations.  I'm gonna eat, sleep, play, print, read and goof off!

No, but if I did I'd attribute it to my declining memory.

I wholeheartedly second this request!  When I get on here late in the evening or early morning it sure would be nice.  Heck, anytime really.

Actually that's carpet in the den with a huge chair mat so I can roll around and not destroy it.  The TI has become a "stealth machine"...

  10. I've made poor retro gaming choices.  I have only have two classic platforms, an Atari 5200 and a Texas Instruments 99/4A.  Both topic areas are like ghost towns... sigh.

Thanks.  I managed to get a little bit more done today, with the celestial map and the all important foot massager.  So as or now, this little corner is done... but I have more to do. 😞

No, I cannot change course, paid cash, movers brought all the big stuff already.  I even have all the furniture in place, although no art or photos on the walls yet.

  14. Ugh!  Shouldn't this be over by now?  Summer can't get here fast enough.  It just started sticking, and now the forecast has it snowing all night.  Sigh.

  15. Micro Pinball has arrived!  It took about two weeks, which was expected.

FedEX delivered it to the wrong address (the house next door).  No biggie, but still.  Not cool.  My poor neighbor was embarrassed that I saw her in PJ's.  Oops.

I'm not sure that I'll have time to open and assemble this today, but I will post here when I do.

  16. The "broken" robo vac works once I replaced the battery. It's kind of impressive how much stuff it picks up. I wonder how it knows where the home base is?  I bet Rod Sterling would have written a killer Twilight Zone episode about these things.

@Sabertooth Too funny.  Actually I'll probably be taking over the spare bedroom this winter.  I've outgrown then den and need two rooms now.  So much for my planned "downsizing"!

That's hilarious!  That could be a great business opportunity if someone designed some tabletop models that people in wheelchairs could use and went to the assisted living and/or nursing homes to sell them.

  20. Seems like the Raspberry Pi 400 is our modern day equivalent of the Commodore 64. A capable computer for you or your kids for $99

I use an 8GB RPi4 for KODI and it works quite well hooked up to a 8TB hard drive, but the 400's limited memory (so far) gives me pause.  But honestly, I'd be willing to buy one tomorrow if they came in black.  That red & white styling just looks cheap and does not go with my decor.

  21. I gotta tell you, I'm quite proud of these Christmas cards I made for my nieces.

Yeah, inkjets clog, drain your bank account with expensive ink, almost the same price/weight as gold... a huge rip-off (IMHO).  If you don't use them all the time the ink can dry in the lines and ruin the printer.  I went though quite literally a dozen inkjet printers before I got smart and bought a laser printer.  I've had the same printer now for four or five years and it's still going strong.

  22. A Kay-Bee ad from 1984 that is circulating on Facebook.  Wouldn't it be cool to take the DeLorean time machine back to that time with a wad of cash and buy everything in sight?

I'd only buy the items that have astronomical prices now.  Just imagine how much money we could make hawking truly rare items on Ebay!
