slobu got a reaction from DegasElite in Dragon Chalice for the Atari 2600
Showing off spike traps in Dragon Chalice for the Atari 2600. They're the first thangs that can end your game! Fear them!!

slobu reacted to MaximumRD in Star Trek: Picard
My wife and I enjoy PICARD having been big Star Trek TNG fans, we've yet to watch any this season only because we have a long list of shows and movies in our viewing line up, likely we will wait until all episodes have aired and I will collect them all at once and add it to our weekly viewing at some point. I was intrigued by the trailers and defintiely look forward while also not reading too much of this thread. IN THE MEANTIME however 😁
New shirt from my wife 😀😎I'm prepared for it!

Can't take credit for that one. Some major homebrew developers got excited to formalize the concept and I rolled with it. Also, I've found some YouTubers forget that their difficulty switches are set to PRO and get frustrated during a review 😞 So, now they HAVE to intentionally joystick it into hard mode!

This looks great!
"Couch compliant" is hilarious! I like that feature and name. 🙂

slobu got a reaction from DegasElite in Atari 2600 or Atari 7800 - which one do you use for gaming?
For gaming a 7800. Have a light sizer and Jr for development and testing.
Pretty much because the Seagull 78 adapter is plugged in there. Also, the option to play 7800 games is nice.

slobu got a reaction from MaximumRD in Happy Birthday (Birthday Mania clone)
For the heck of it made an homage to Birthday Mania. Good for short runs as it gets unfair fast.
Happy Birthday!
A game by Gemintronic, LLC
Do not resell
What better way to celebrate than snuffing out candles with a puff or even a hat!
The title screen displays a message and shows the high score. Press FIRE to continue.
Press FIRE to launch a puff into candles for 10 points
Use LEFT or RIGHT on your joystick to maneuver your hat into candles for 8 points
Press RESET to clear your score and return to the title
Setting either difficulty switch to EXPERT (A) reduces your time and increases candle drop rate
Your score is displayed bottom center on screen
Each candle that drops off screen deducts time (represented top right from score)
Your game is over once the time is 0. You can review your high score or press FIRE to try again.
* Not every candle can be saved due to reach or bad luck
* When catching with your hat any candles on the same row have a chance not not deduct time

slobu reacted to - Ω - in 3-D Printing TI-99 Cartridge Shells & Holders
Many people are now getting into 3D printing to support their retro computing and gaming hobby. One can now make replacement parts for older systems, cases for new supporting equipment, replacement cartridge shells and all sorts of other neat items. For example I printed up a new cartridge holder for some of my TI-99/4A cartridges as shown here.

slobu reacted to RickR in Inventing the Atari 2600 - A Technical Article from IEEE in 1983
Here's a fascinating article about some of the technical aspects of the 2600 design. Since it was originally written in 1983, there's a lot of input from the company giants that we've all come to know since then.

slobu got a reaction from RickR in Basic Programming. Using GOTO. Do you still use it?
It's never been a problem for BASIC users. I've always heard criticism from C and assembly oriented programmers.
I've tried switching to user routines and gosubs but the additional CPU overhead always gets me in trouble.
UPDATE: I'm not picking on anyone who comes from a lower level language background. Just my own personal impressions over the years.

slobu reacted to Mr SQL in Vaporware made real Commodore Atari 2600 Cardapter
The Chameleon 64 sounds really cool, I like that it has FPGA cores for the Atari 2600 and the C64.
I am not affected by chip shortages, Gameloader is running Atari 2600 program on an unmodified C64.
This is a software only solution using a soft ANTIC blitter accelerated by the VIC-II.
I have just uploaded a surprising benchmark where it it is outperforming a real Atari 2600.

slobu got a reaction from Justin in New run of War in the Machine for Sega Genesis
Good Deal Games made a new un-numbered run of War in the Machine. Technically version 1.1
New is an alternate control mode where UP and DOWN control your base instead of A and B. Your mini ship projectiles also move with the d-pad so maybe a little gotcha there.
Over the years I've noticed some clone systems and versions of the Mega SG firmware speed up the music. I've communicated with the Mega SG core developer about this.
Game is the same: move your base vertically to avoid enemies. Kill a quota of randomized baddies to challenge a randomized boss. Defeat the boss to start a new wave with more demanding quotas and speed. Use chromadepth 3D glasses for depth! Red hues appear closer and blue farther away.

slobu got a reaction from Justin in Star Trek: Picard
Was not digging the broken Picard theme of last season. Even regurgitating Q and time travel episodes is better than breaking main characters.

slobu got a reaction from Justin in Jaguar Controllers for Atari 7800 games
I've always wanted an adapter that would take USB joysticks and connect them to classic consoles. Making niche console joystick to niche different console adapters seems like a way to guarantee low reach. There are all sorts of USB joysticks including clones of classic console controllers and myriad options for preferred buttons, grip and features.
Strongly suspect that these bluetooth to classic console adapters will be the closest thing to my ideal soon.

Winter Games title screen. Remember sitting at the intro just for that.
But, it was more me being impressed it had recognizable music in the first place. 😛
