  1. I too don't care if it's custom Jag's or not, but this was the Jag forum so I didn't want to open the flood gates to everything if it's frowned upon.
  2. here are some pics. covers came in jewel case style and dvd.
  3. Yes it does, it's a working partial game and I think it would have saved FMV tech and led to A-list interactive movies, and we might still have them today on Blue-ray and streaming video. I think hollywood would have stood up and taken notice in this case. Truely an unfortunate loss in the technology, IMO. unfortunately I have no way of making videos right now, but I would be happy to make you a copy if you have a Jag CD. it was freely distributed a number of years back on several Jaguar forums, it may still be online somewhere. Covers and everything were made up for it by fans. As a matter of fact, and I might be misremembering, but I think it was Clint Thompson had a hand in it's release, though, again, I might be misremembering that part, it might have been some one else. But he started this thread so he can confirm or deny. But I think there are other members who may have it and may be able to upload game-play video. Still, no problem to make a copy for you, or I could upload an ISO in a PM or something...whatever, I don't want to break any forum rules, but this isn't a pirate thing, it was legitimately released. Some Atari dealers may even sell it. For starters I'll post some pics of it here. There is also another tech demo available, IIRC, called 'the cave', not to be mixed up with the infamous 'Cave' Jag infomercial, and I know B&C sells copies of it, to at least check out the tech. But AH is much better with better actors and story, etc.
  4. I think I'll custom paint my Jag rotary controller this time too. I need to get one of those Jaguar hologram stickers from B&C or Best to put on the spinner knob.
  5. Baloney! I have the playable alpha/beta of the game and what's there is very fun and outclasses any of the true crap FMV on other systems. This was a 'Choose Your Own Adventure' book in a movie and would have ROCKED! The beta is fun as it is, and it actually has some decent B-list actors in it instead of the usual terrible high school quality actors in just about every other FMV game I've ever seen. Timothy Bottoms went on to have his own TV show, IIRC, 'That's my Bush' or something like that, a comedy-parody on George W. Bush when he was in office, the officer in it was a regular on either 'Heat of the Night' or 'Matlock' (forget which) back in the 90's, and the General from American Hero has been a character actor in countless movies and TV shows for decades. This was not the usual FMV crap and the game engine was a new state-of-the-art system. Atari just didn't have the funds to get it all done in the end (the rest of what you said was true with their lack of direction, but this one would have hit the mark). Maybe not a system seller, but it would have been great and led to real FMV games that were actually good for a change, what everyone really envisioned for FMV all along, but never could get it right.
  6. I had a couple of these, I bought mine from either Best E., or B&C, but they were selling for $10-15 back when I got mine. I sold them along with my video-mod 7800 a while back, but I liked them, grade B-. I too removed the thumb pad, but kept it handy as a few games worked better with it installed. I also used it with my 2600 and Atari 8-bit computer and Atari ST. Before I got those, I modded a Genesis controller myself two work with two buttons. I've heard that Master system controller work with 2 buttons on the 7800 without modding, but I never tried one myself.
  7. I was cleaning my custom painted Jaguar system today in preparation to give it all a re-coat as it has gotten a few scuffs and scratches on console and CD unit and worn areas on the controllers, etc. and I decided to take some pictures. These are the before shots and I will show after shots when the re-coat is done. I am a stickler for keeping my electronics clean and looking new. I decided to go with a two-tone custom job since I could not bring myself to paint over the logo and other printed surfaces (except on the controllers, i.e. pause, option, etc. on my pro-controller; I intended to replace with stickers, but never got around to it). I made two errors the first time around that I intend to fix with the new paint coat: I didn't spray the seams of the CD unit well enough and I at first attempted to cover the pause and option buttons on the pro-controller to save the print, but it didn't look good, so I sprayed over it which then left a ridge where I had covered it at first. I have sanded the area smooth so that will be fixed after the new coat. Some of you may have seen my Jag system before as I showed it off at AtariAge a few years back when I first customized it. But I thought some others might enjoy seeing it, I do like to show it. It does have a blue LED power light, not shown here, too, bright enough to light up my controller ports and the ceiling in a dark room (I use a projector a lot). It also gives the my Jag's red a purple hue in the dark, which is cool looking. The first time I showed it, some people commented that it looked like I had done a less-than-perfect paint job as there was an orange-peel effect, but this is not the case, it is the natural texture of the plastic and just looks that way from glare when taking photos. In real life it is apparent that it is the consoles texturing. I also want to see other's custom jobs up-close, I've seen one or two in Avatar pics, but that's not good enough and maybe there are other proud owners who want to show off theirs? Painted, custom cases, what ever. Sorry if the pics are dark, they looked too bright through my phone camera so I turned down the exposure, only to see them too dark when I loaded them up to my PC. I will do better with the after pics. I am currently downloading a picture edit program, but didn't have one right now to adjust the pics.
  8. yeah, i got the flashback 2 as well, and yeah I had the tops come unscrewed also. But at least you can use original Atari joysticks with it, or, like i do, my WICO stick!
  9. I picked this up last Christmas Eve on clearance at the Dollar Store, to see what I had missed as a kid. I always wanted one until I eventually got an Atari 8-bit computer instead. I wasn't impressed, most of the games have much better versions on the A8 computers. Zaxxon look ok, but the scrolling sucks compared to the A8 version and after going through them all, I feel the same, I have better versions of most of the games on my A8. I was very impressed with Mecha-8 though, my nephew and I took turns playing it through twice. So it did make me *think* about getting a real Colecovision, but more for any new home-brews than for the original games...except for one, Frenzy, which isn't on the A8, unless a home-brew has been released...I know the 7800 got it. I have to say that I can't recommend Colecovision flashback highly. If you have an Atari 8-bit system like the computers or 5200 or a Commodore 64, or even a 7800, there's no need to look to Colecovision, you've got better versions of most games on those systems already; especially with the strong home-brew scenes on them bringing many of the classics that they didn't have originally to them now. And the controllers are really cheap on it, my knobs keep popping off when I'm in the heat of game play...a very bad thing. If you don't have those other systems or computers then I can recommend it due to the 61 games included. otherwise, get any of those other systems and start collecting.
  10. Well, even if we did see the best the jag could do with 3D in merely it's second generation of games, they were good games and more of a similar quality would only have been a good thing. No, it wasn't going to compete with the Saturn, PS1 or N64, but i do think it could handle most of what the 3DO had in regards to 3D, even if it lacked the 1 meg of video ram and built-in texturing. I also don't know that the 3DO ever saw it's limits reached and maybe would have still out shined the Jag if both had made it to 3rd or 4th gen titles from good developers, but I'm sure the jag could handle good version of most of what was released on the 3DO up to that point, if it had the backing and the top programmers to do the job. The 3DO used lots of tricks to hide weaknesses and make you think some games were doing more than they really were. the Jag CD would have allowed similar tricks if it had ever really been used to it's potential (that is, the Jaguar with CD format really being used, I know the Jag CD didn't bring more power to the Jag, just a format that could allow it to overcome some limitations of the cartridge format) I was also really looking forward to Dactyl Joust, LOTU, Freelancer, Black/Ice White/noise. And at least with BI/WN Alpha/Betas we see a glimmer of the Jag using the potential of CD. And the Jag and 3DO would probably have lasted longer or even been successful if it was just Sega's Saturn as the next big thing, since it was so hard to program too. The Juggernaut of Sony getting into the arena was the real demise of the other systems. The N64 was still another year away, and by then, we would have probably had the 3DO M2 and Jaguar 2 to compete with it, as well as 3rd and 4th gen games on the 3DO and Jag, both at lower price-points. Sony changed the entire industry and it took another Juggernaut in Microsoft to compete. Even Nintendo had to find their niche market to stay around with the Wii, though they were big enough to survive with the N64 and Gamecube to that point. And of course nintendo was making money hand-over-fist with their other markets such as Pokemon, and the hand-held gaming market.
  11. Oh, Starglider II was definitely one of his better choices, agreed, and IK+. I'm generally a fan of CORE, including for the ST, and Rick Dangerous is a fun game, no doubt. though I'm a bigger fan of CORE's work with the Sega CD, Battlecorps, Soul Star, Thunderhawk(?) (is that the same on the ST? 360 degree helicopter shooter?) I didn't know it was out for the ST if it is...but maybe I got the name wrong from the Sega CD game? Also BC Racers, though I don't recall if that was on Sega CD or not, I thought the 32X version was good, far better than the 3DO version! But, yeah, CORE DESIGN rocks. I'd really hoped those games had made it to the Jaguar, at least we got a corrupted version of Soul Star...still hoping for a release of the fixed version someday.

    I-War!

yeah, you got that right, if I had to start from scratch with the Jag now, I wouldn't and couldn't, the pricing is insane, really insane. I like to recommend it as a collectible system, but right now I just can't justify recommending it with such astronomical prices. I've only got about a dozen cart games back myself, and half a dozen CD games, since I sold off my collection several years ago (only because I needed money, and the same with the 3DO and DC). I got back into it just in time to get most of my top favorites, but now I can't afford to collect for the Jag anymore atm. I'm not sure if I would if I had the cash, with the crazy high prices. luckily I have the Jag CD so I've been building up a sizable home-brew collection.
  13. If you loved Starfighter on the PS1, you really should get a 3DO, or if you have one, get Starfighter on it. the 3DO version is superior to the PS1 and Saturn ports by a good margin. The same is true for Need For Speed 1, more of a sim on the 3DO, they ruined it on the Saturn and PS1 by making it more arcade like. Most of the 3DO titles (original exclusives) that were later ported to the Saturn and PS1 are superior on the 3DO and certainly it's not that those systems couldn't have handled better versions. Spacehulk is another example of terrible Saturn and PS1 ports compared to the 3DO. I forgot to mention Starlancer on the DC, love that game too. Of course I like/love a lot more games on all three (DC, 3DO, Jag) then I have mentioned here. As far as Gunlord goes, I don't seem to recall that DC title, I'll have to look into it. What genre is it? Sounds like a shmup to me. And Sturmwind is a shmup too isn't it? I like a lot of those on the DC, but I don't think I've tried those ones yet. Sturmwind is a recent release, right? I'm still catching up on recent DC releases, I just burned a copy of Volgarr the Viking platformer, very Rygar-like so far, which is a good thing. The problem I have with what CyranoJones has ported so far ST-wise to the jag is the game choices, most seem very strange to be the first, with such a huge library of much better games to choose from, for the most part. Like what the hell is up with that shitty Buggy Boy racing game when there is goodness like Vroom!, No Second Place, Lotus Turbo Challenge and Crazy Cars 2 to choose from, just for starters? And stuff like Rick Dangerous and Rainbow Island dizzy (pretty good games), when there is stuff like G.O.D.S into the wonderful (I think I got the name right) and Shadow of the Beast, and many, many much better platformers. To me, he has very strange taste in games, at least as first choices to port to the Jag.
  14. Correct me if I am wrong, but Raptor can only do 2D, right? And is a form of BASIC actually going to be able to tap any true power from the Jag? Even in 2D? I certainly doubt that something like Arena Football could be done with this engine or this BASIC, but please, tell me I am wrong and I will look into learning to program with both myself. But from my current perspective, if I ever intend to do 3D or anything that really uses the Jag's muscle, I'll have to learn Assembly...no?

    I-War!

You have me a bit confused...are you saying you no longer own a Jag, or just that you wished you had gotten I-war long ago, but maybe will now? If the former, if you spend so much time talking about the Jag, why not get it again? Along with I-war? it seems you still have a love for the system if you are hanging in Jag forums so much...maybe it's the second choice though? Then definitely get I-war, I promise at least you won't hate it. Maybe there are Youtube videos to check out? though just use them to get an idea, as most Youtube videos the people can't play the Jag games they are filming worth a damn and so it's hard to be impressed with the half-hearted attempts at gameplay.
  16. I stuck with my 8-bit Atari until I bought a Jaguar (playing friend's Genesis and SNES stuff), I never got into the ST line of computers in their heyday, and when I did finally pick up an ST, STE and Falcon in the early part of the 21st century, I just couldn't get into them like with the 8-bit and Jag (maybe the Falcon, if it had had more software and it wasn't worth so much that I ended up selling it for a badly needed cash influx). I still have a couple of non-working ST's in storage that I plan on fixing some day, but I just have no real love for them like A8 and Jag. The Lynx is cool, with lots of cool games, I enjoyed it for a while, then gave it to my nephew in the late 90's. I will get it again one day. But yeah, I like the 3DO and DC a lot more than anything but the Jag. With the DC, it's the racing games mostly, plus Half-life and then all the PC FPS ports like Hexen and Heretic. The 3DO love is due to NFS, Spacechulk, Po'ed, Starfighter, Wing commander mostly, but all three (Jag, 3DO, DC) just have such uniqueness to them and their libraries in general that I guess makes me love them, even if many people frown on them. I am definitely not a me-to mainstream guy, I like what I like and don't give a damn if people think I'm stupid for it. Of course I like some of the top-rated industry stuff too, I love GTA games, Elder Scrolls RPG's, Halo, Call of Duty, and most modern racing games, etc., but still like the odd-ball games and systems more and to this day, my all-time favorite games are still on the Jaguar, 3DO and Dreamcast.
  17. Hello everyone! New member here! So far I am loving this forum and the people in it. Many of you know me, but I've been tired of my old handle for quite a while and have decided to move on with a new handle with new forums I've been joining (Jag and DC so far). I'm not running from my past at all (see my introduction in introduction thread), just tired of the old, and am starting all new in my new forum homes. Saying good-bye to Atariage forever (at least the Jag scene there, I'll still frequent the 8-bit forums) and decided on a new name to boot. Baker is my last name, hence Bakerman. Now, to the topic at hand. I've been a true Atari fan (though I started with Pong and the VCS in my youth) since '85 when I got my first real computer, the 130XE (I did own a Sinclair ZX-81, the U.S. Timex 1000 model before that though). The Jaguar holds a special place in my heart for several reasons, including it being Atari's last console, if the Jaguar 2 had ever come out the story might be different. I too, was hoping for a re-emergence from Atari with the Jaguar, and my early experiences with it was almost all good, as I picked it up in early '95 and it had a decent sized library with some good games by then, and I chose well for the most part (except for Checkered Flag) in the early days and through most of it's first life (commercial life). But it's not just because it was the last console by Atari, I like hardware that isn't off-the-shelf, run-of-the-mill stuff, which is also why I love the Atari 8-bit line; both have unique custom silicon that screams "test me out, see what I am really capable of, think out-of-the-box!" Most of the other reasons have already been mentioned, so I'm not going to repeat. But I am not just an Atari fan-boy, even though the 8-bits and Jaguar are at the top of my all-time favorites, I'm also a fan of other failed systems, including the 3DO and Dreamcast (I can really pick successes as my favorites, can't I?). For consoles, my top three in order are; Jaguar, 3DO and Dreamcast. I like other Sega and Atari systems, but those are my all-time favorites. I like underdogs I guess, but they have to have games I like too, and those three do. Yes, some of my favorite Jag games are considered by many as not it's best, but then all that matters to me is if I like them. Like the Dreamcast, the Jaguar is getting a second life in home-brews and I too, think one day we will see some more 3D stuff and not just 2D remakes of old 8-bit stuff and ST ports. But I am still waiting, hopefully. So far, in the home-brew department the only game that has kept my attention for more than 10 minutes is Dr. Typos Fallen Angels. I was a huge fan of Rescue on Fractalus from the Atari 8-bit, and I still hope to see updates of the other great Lucasfilm games. of course I consider the Telegames and Songbird releases to be commercial, not home-brew, as well as Battlesphere, Impulse X, etc. Most of the rest I consider home-brew 'mini-games" and am still hopeful of some truly full-scale games in the future. I'll be adding a real picture of myself soon, in the avatar and completing any profile soon.
  18. Battlesphere with analog anyone? (in the second port of course)

    I-War!

It's one of my top 10 Jaguar games, I love it. I love the Tronesque cyberspace look and it's really fun. Also a true 3D game with platforms and bridges, etc. above "ground level" that you "bounce" up to on "trampolines." It rocks and I highly recommend it to any Jag fan that wants more 3D Jag games. Yes, there can be some slow down when things get hectic and tons of polygons are shattering all over the place, but it doesn't last long and I don't feel it detracts from the game because the enemies all slow down too, so it's not like you get pummeled and can't react fast enough or anything. The bonus levels are also awesome. It is Cybermorph and Hoverstrike rolled into one with a dash of Tron in Cyberspace. The music is fantastic old-school techno-rave stuff, like T2K...but what else would you expect from Imagitec?
