Arenafoot
Programmer: Joe Musashi Newer version made for the 2015 PRGE which includes: "In addition to the new features, there are two smaller changes: In stage 2, the fireball comes from outside the screen, and does not just pop up anymore. In stage 4, the flames do appear on the opposite side of Mario. I will soon post another version with level progression also for stages 3 and 4. This is currently highly experimental and will need some fine tuning." http://atariage.com/forums/topic/206497-dk-vcs/?p=3349394 D.K.VCS_PRGE_151015_NTSC.bin D.K.VCS_PRGE_151015_PAL60.bin Brian Matherne - owner/curator of "The MOST comprehensive list of Atari VCS/2600 homebrews ever compiled." http://tiny.cc/Atari2600Homebrew author of "The Atari 2600 Homebrew Companion" book series available on Amazon! www.amazon.com/author/brianmatherne

Arenafoot
It's been 3 years to the day that the first version was released of D.K. VCS, and Joe Musashi has released another update: from Joe: What's new: Mario can now jump immediately after getting off a ladder. Note that you still have to get the timing right. You cannot jump while still being on a ladder. Increased the horizontal collision overlap interval. Now Mario can overlap enemies by three pixels without getting hit. And finally, level progression for all stages. As there cannot be more enemy sprites, this is done by increasing the speed. Note that difficulty only depends on the level number. This means that if you play the US stage order, the elevator will already be fast when you encounter it the first time. This is in line with the arcade version. If you want to experience level 9 but do not want to train to reach it, you can also push the joystick up when starting the game from the title. It will then start with level 9. Arenafoot
Another update released today! from Joe Musashi: "Get ready... for the next feature packed update! What's new: You can now use SELECT to choose a starting level (L=1-9) during the climbing sequence. The buttons on both the left and right controllers can be used to jump. What's this good for? It can be used for simple cooperative game play, where one player (left) controls Mario's direction, while the other player (right) controls jumping. You now have to use the elevator. As per Ivan's suggestion, the width of the right elevator shaft has been increased at the top. You can still jump over the left shaft, but not over the right one anymore. A heart for fiery fiends: enemies killed with the hammer will be re-spawned. In the girder stage the interval will decrease with the level. Be prepared to kill more than one fireball from level 2 on. In the rivet stage the flame is re-spawned when the hammer is gone. And... the pie factory got smoothly moving telescope ladders, which will make you more nervous when getting to the second conveyor." MaximumRD
So impressive what a good programmer can still coax out of the little old 2600 ! Arenafoot
another update!!!!!!! from Joe.......... After some more testing of the latest experimental version here's now an "official" release. It's basically the test version without the cheat but with a few small additions. Compared to the last release version there are the following changes: Mario's horizontal jump distance has been shortened from 5 to 4 blocks. In the intro climbing sequence the girder below Kong gets lowered with each jump. The intermission sequence ("How high can you get?") can now be aborted with the fire button. Fixed a bug in the pie factory where the telescope ladders would not stop when Mario reached the top. Fixed a bug in the elevator stage where Mario could be hit by a jack in the save spot above a ladder.
