Justin Posted November 2 Report Posted November 2 The long-lost Tower of Mystery for the Atari 2600 has finally been unearthed! Originally designed by Jane Terjung and Mike Sanders, this action RPG was set to break new ground on the Atari 2600 with complex dungeon-crawling gameplay and overhead maps. Sadly, Mattel Electronics shut down just a month before Tower of Mystery could hit stores, leaving it as a rare demo showcased only at the 1984 CES. You can read more about Tower of Mystery on AtariProtos.com: http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/towerofmystery/towerofmystery.htm A demo had been shown 25 years ago at CGE ‘99, but a complete ROM and source code had not been released. Now, thanks to Digital Eclipse and Atari, Tower of Mystery has been found and will be made available to the public, offering classic gaming fans a chance to play and preserve this piece of gaming history. Preserving this kind of history is both important and cool. I’m hopeful we will begin to see more new developments that go beyond re-releasing classic games in new packaging, and that we will see brand new games developed around both legacy and new IPs being released for the Atari 2600 and 7800 systems.
