RickR Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 I always got the impression that the SMS left a lot of great games off the table because the system-life was so short. Kind of like how games on the 2600 or NES got much more refined and impressive once developers really started to know and push the systems to their limits. Marco1019 and Justin 2 Quote

That said, it's a good comparison. Justin 1 Quote

This is true, but more than enough cool games got released in South America that can be imported and played, well through the Genesis era and even just a few years ago. Sega Master System was released in North America at the end of 1986 but didn't become widely available until 1987. Distribution was through Tonka. It wasn't until the Sega Genesis in 1989 that Sega of America was in a position to handle distribution on their own. By that point they were still a smaller company with limited resources, and chose to focus their efforts almost entirely on the Sega Genesis. That really only gave the Sega Master System about two and a half full years of being fully supported on the market. I could go into Kay Bee Toys through 1994 and still find Sega Master System II units for sale with two or three games still on the shelf, but it wasn't common. South America and other parts of the world was a different story though. They received full releases of Sonic the Hedgehog and many other Sega classics. RickR 1 Quote
