MaximumRD Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 Last year Atari released the 2600+ console - a revamped, reimagined VCS for the 21st century. Now they've done it again with the lesser-known 7800 from 1986 - so let's see what it's all about! Justin Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 I really would have preferred they had gone with the look of the US release that we grew up with, or at least offered it as an option. And continuing to hype "1986" completely memory holes people walking into stores and buying the 7800 off store shelves in 1984, along with most of the original titles. Yes, the sale to Jack Tramiel delayed the full rollout that was expected during the summer of 1984, but systems were sold to the public, warehouses were stocked, all the copyrights say 1984, it's always seemed weird to me that people want to pretend that didn't happen. Hoping next year we will see ani moved Atari + system with on board 7800 High Score Cartridge, 7800 XM support (or similar) as new standard, debug mode, pause for 2600 games, select and pause on wireless controller with turbo switches, in an Atari 2700 case hiding cartridge ports for 5200 and Atari 8-Bit computer cartridges under the flap. Would be beautiful. Sabertooth, DegasElite and MaximumRD 3 Quote
Sabertooth Posted November 25 Report Posted November 25 (edited) The early reviews look promising. I am mixed on the fat rainbow - it's the one I don't have. It's good to see improved paddle support and driver controller support. That they can't get the keypad to work on Star Raiders in 2024 still boggles the mind. The addition of phospor settings, 50hz (for PAL) and other options is very cool. An improvement on the 2600+ in most ways that matter. @Justin - The few available XM enhanced carts work on the 2600/7800+ with latest firmware. Agree that pause/turbo on the controllers would be neat, as would high score support. Edited November 25 by Sabertooth MaximumRD, Justin and DegasElite 3 Quote
