jmjustin6 Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 Hi i have recently come into contact with a video game brain and it isnt working right. Im sure its because the main board is in bad shape. It looks like rust or something. It has been sitting in a basement for probably 20+ years. Does anyone know how i might fix this? I have tried the normal rubbing alcohol and qtip with no success The power light comes on fine but this is what comes on the screen.
AlamoAtari Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 You have to clean every single contact point on the brain. Lots of qtips and rubbing alcohol. I never had one to take apart, but take pictures as you do so you know what goes where.
LeeJ07 Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 I have read online that the Video Game Brain is an extremely finicky piece of equipment, prone to breaking down easily. However, they are not impossible to fix. Lots of rubbing alcohol on the contacts is indeed a must. "I'd buy that for a dollar!" -Smash T.V.
leolinden Posted December 10, 2015 Report Posted December 10, 2015 That's a pretty cool piece of equipment! Retro obsessed dude
greenween Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 What is this thing?? "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."
RickR Posted December 11, 2015 Report Posted December 11, 2015 It's used to make it easier to switch cartridges....you just push a button to pick the game you want to play. Interesting for sure! If there's rust involved, I'd try the "Barkeeper's Friend" method. In summary, you put a little "Barkeepers Friend" powder in a cup, add a little water to make a watery paste, and then scrub the contacts with a small toothbrush dipped in that stuff. Once you've scrubbed, scrub again with plain water, and dry with a towel.
