Justin
Planet Smashers Atari 7800 Controller: PLAYER'S CHOICE Difficulty Level: HARD Achieve high score to win challenge Squad Challenge ends 11:59 pm PST December 31st, 2015 Objective: Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between December 15th to December 31st, 2015. Screen captures are not allowed as they are easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the 2-week competition is the victor. Eligibility: Anyone can join in. All players are welcome! Play Rules: Games may be played on real Atari hardware, dedicated (Flashback) console, or emulation, using any joystick or keyboard, following rules and game settings as delineated in the Squad Challenge. We are playing the original Planet Smashers for Atari 7800, enhancements and hacked versions of this game are not allowed. Difficulty Level: This game must be played using the HARD Difficulty Level. Fair Play: Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate banning from the site. It goes without saying that no use of cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, Photoshop, or any other unfair advantage is allowed. Everybody hates a cheater. More: To review detailed rules on how to play, please visit the High Score Squad page here: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/1219-high-score-squad-how-to-play/ Welcome to our 2nd Squad Challenge! We're glad you're here, and excited for the year ahead! For our 2nd Squad Challenge we chose a game that was both excellent and under the radar, but was available on Flashback units and of course on emulation. High Score Squad will rotate between "common favorites" and "under the radar games". Sometimes we may pick common games, other times we may get more adventurous in our selection. Think of it like a book club or food tasting event with a nice mix. I hope all of you have a good time, and remember this is for "nerd cred" and meant to be fun for all! You have until 11:59 pm PST December 31st to complete this challenge. GOOD LUCK, SQUAD!
nosweargamer
Time to break the ice! First time I ever gave it a serious play through. I hope some of the other members give it a try. Interesting take on a space shooter. I can't get past the first boss yet. As you can see from the photo, my second game was much better than my first: 104,500 The No Swear Gamer on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChtJuo040EOCTVziObIgVcg Host of The Atari 7800 Game by Game Podcast on iTunes, Stitcher and YouTube
AlamoAtari
Don't have that game, going to have to watch from the sidelines on this one. It looks a bit like a daemon attack mixed with galaga and asteroids. Interesting!

RickR
59425. I think I need to read the manual. Took me a while to figure out that the "auto-fire" pickup did auto-fire. I like this part of the challenge a lot -- introduction to new games that I haven't tried before. Very fun. Thanks, and good luck all. Share your tips! I need them!! RadioPoultry
Hadn't played this before. Some interesting differences from your typical space shooters. My color-blindness makes warping ahead kinda difficult, but I don't think it's too big a problem. My score (hard difficulty): 162125 Still have yet to defeat a boss. Justin
Here's a tip: Start off with a practice round using normal difficulty settings. Most all Squad Challenges are played on High Difficulty to keep the games short, sweet and challenging. That also makes games instantly hard to play. If you're not familiar with the game, try a few practice rounds on regular difficulty settings until you get the hang of things. It could make the learning curve much less steep. RadioPoultry
Well, I just got 259500 in easy mode (I know, it doesn't count) and managed to destroy the first boss while at it. Learning!
The Professor
I don't understand why the Video Game Critic gave this game an F?!?! I don't see it being this bad. I guve this a B-. I agree, maybe this Squad Challenge will help to change that perception!
nosweargamer
I don't understand why the Video Game Critic gave this game an F?!?! I don't see it being this bad. I guve this a B-. It's hard to say. Perhaps he was just in a bad mood when he reviewed it or only put it in for a couple of minutes. He also gave Pete Rose Baseball an F which is criminally low.
