Because the battery technolgy is advancing so rapidly I decided to lease for the first time in my life and I'm now on my second Nissan LEAF. I may keep this one at the end of my leaase next year. We have rooftop solar so these have been true net zero emission vehicles. Also, with the solar/EV combo I no longer have an electric bill or a fuel bill. My solar payment is less than a quarter of our old combined energy/gasoline expenses and the savings fully offsets my car payment. My first LEAF was a blue 2011 SL (pictured). It was made in Japan and was one of the first 500 delivered to the U.S. I put 38,000 miles on it in 35 months. My second LEAF is a silver 2013 SL like the one pictured (Not mine). It was made here in the US at Nissan's Tennesee plant. When I first got a LEAF virtually no one had electric cars and I would get stopped all the tme by curious strangers, even here in coastal Southern CA. I can't tell you how many people asked how much gas it uses and were shocked when I said none. This has changed a bit over the last five years. Now there is the LEAF, Tesla S, 500e, eGolf, Focus EV, Spark, Fit EV, Soul EV, Rav4 EV, with more hitting the market everyday. But in 2011 EVs were unusual. I was even put in my old agency's internal employee news letter on a "living green" feature. To date six friends and colleagues have switched to EVs after talking to me and/or driving my car. I even offered a week long car swap to my old boss who just picked up her 2015 two months ago. My wife used to complain that Nissan should pay me for selling the damned things. Atari 5200 Guy Posted December 18, 2015 Report Share Posted December 18, 2015 Mine is a 93 Plymouth acclaim I gave $400 for in 08. I found it under a shade tree in an old man's field. It is at almost 187,000 miles and has had over $700 in new parts added in the past two years...all of the work I have done myself. Mine needs a new paint job desperately but the 4-cylinder engine keeps purring like a kitten. The photo is for reference only. I want more of these cars as they can be good cars.
