Blazing Lazers

Here's a look at Blazing Lazers, one of the US TurboGrafx-16 launch titles, and one of the best shooters of 16-bit era video games.

 

 

So, what do you guys think? Have you played Blazing Lazers? What impression did it leave you with of the TurboGrafx-16 console?

Blazing Lazers was the first game I bought for the TurboGrafx when I got it. I could play it for hours! Other TG stuff that came later on the Duo looked more advanced, but Blazing Lazers is brilliant and it's still one of my favorite shmups.

I played it once at a friend's house. Unfortunately it was his older brother's system and he came home and got mad that we were playing with his stuff. I remember him opening the jewel case and that chip in there. I was expecting to be a CD in there.

I missed all the TG16 games except one Keith Courage. It came with the system and the only game I ever found. Through emulation I have discovered this and other TG16 games where I would like to get a PC Engine someday...especially for Salamander.

Classic Game Room has a great review of Blazing Lazers. It's one of my favorite TurboGrafx-16 games as well!

ya Blazing Lasers showed a lot of promise for TG16 in the early days. It was my favorite game for the system next to Alien Crush.

Well, I'm definitely in the mood for some TurboGrafx now. I may have to fire up the ol' 16 and see how she runs.

Blazing Lazers was the first TurboGrafx game I ever played.  Played it before I had my Turbo, even.  It was playing on a big screen TV at McDuff's Electronics in the mall in my town.  It was the only place I knew of that sold them, even.  Anyway, I stood there for probably an hour playing it.  I was amazed... this was so much better than Tiger Heli and 1943... lol

I think Blazing Lazers was the first TurboGrafx-16 game I ever played too. It was the demo game they had playing in the TurboGrafx kiosk at our Toys R Us. Other shoot 'em ups came along like Soldier Blade that were graphically superior, but Blazing Lazers has always been my favorite to play on that system.

[Control Issues]

Took a break from playing R-Type and popped in Blazing Lazers.  I think playing so much R-Type gave me practice because I beat Blazing Lazers for the first time in years.  No continues.  Didn't think I'd do it as I was running out of lives... ended up killing the last boss with the pea shooter.  😃

Kanye is a genius so that makes the TG-16 the best system ever....
