Rowsdower70 Posted March 22, 2016 Author Report Posted March 22, 2016 So who's up for some online multiplayer maze craze!? "For you - Rowsdower from the 70 - have been appointed Omnivisioner of the Game Grid." ~ Atari Adventure Square
RadioPoultry Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 So who's up for some online multiplayer maze craze!? Totally! I've only a played a couple of these against others. (Combat and Pong.) I'm still concerned about lag. Some of these games operate at about 60 fps. Given the possible distances involved for multiplayer, that doesn't leave much time available for receiving input for each frame. It could be, though, that they're not going for a perfect emulation of multiplayer, and they're using some tricks to reduce the effects of latency. I remember when I used to be subscribed to Gametap, I tried playing the New Zealand Story arcade game multiplayer, and it was pretty slow. My broadband wasn't as good back then, though, so who knows... I'm surprised Solaris isn't on there. They've got Radar Lock, though. Maybe they're considering DLC?
Rowsdower70 Posted March 22, 2016 Author Report Posted March 22, 2016 I'd guess they'll have add-on packs if its popular enough.Would be nice if they could get some third parties to sign off on it too! RickR Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 I don't know...the very first game is spelled wrong. "Tow"??? And they can't capitalize? Are they releasing this info from a tablet? I'm keeping a healthy "wait and see" attitude on this.
nosweargamer Posted March 22, 2016 Report Posted March 22, 2016 I'm surprised Solaris isn't on there. They've got Radar Lock, though. Maybe they're considering DLC? I think Doug Neubauer holds the rights (partial at least if not all) for the game, so they'd have to pay him to use it. You basically have to view it as a third party game in this case. Ballblaɀer Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 Has anyone seen anything on a price for this yet? Anybody want to take a guess as to what it will be? I can't wait for DLC, aimbots, cloudhacking in Combat...
Arenafoot Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 Yeah...... how much is Steam? and/or the Atari Vault???? Brian Matherne - owner/curator of "The MOST comprehensive list of Atari VCS/2600 homebrews ever compiled." http://tiny.cc/Atari2600Homebrew author of "The Atari 2600 Homebrew Companion" book series available on Amazon! www.amazon.com/author/brianmatherne
Ballblaɀer Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 Yeah...... how much is Steam? and/or the Atari Vault???? Steam itself is free. If someone asked me to guess what they're gonna charge for the Atari Vault, I'd take a wild guess and say $20. There are enough sales on Steam that buying a game at full price is something I do very, very rarely, and I see this as no exception given that I already own the vast majority of these games on original media, can run them in emulators for free just fine, etc.
Ballblaɀer Posted March 23, 2016 Report Posted March 23, 2016 RAM required to run most Atari 2600 games on original hardware: 128 bytes RAM required to run Atari Vault: 2147483648 bytes The is 16.77 million times more efficient than a PC using Steam!

Then they'll have add-on packs with more games, you can bet! I also rarely pay full price for a game. Steam sales keep me covered. Ballblaɀer Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 Just got the notification email that it's on sale. $19.99 as expected!
RadioPoultry Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 And it's apparently 15% off, so it's actually $16.99 right now. I think I may hold out a day or two for reviews.
nosweargamer Posted March 24, 2016 Report Posted March 24, 2016 Just got the notification email that it's on sale. $19.99 as expected! I fully expect this to be on sale for $9.99 within 3 to 6 months. Atari Adventure Square Posted March 27, 2016 Report Posted March 27, 2016 This is such a Must-Buy, it's not even funny. Although I might wait for the Steam Summer Sale to see if it drops down a bit more. The multiplayer aspect of it makes it essential, as I could see myself playing a few games with fellow retrogamers from around here. But there is some concern over controls, which can break the fun just as fast as it makes it. Nonetheless, this will be an addition. And why not, I think I have Atari games on every console and port in the castle. My Steam sig should be fairly obvious. AdventureSquare (switch On)
