Help identifying a part

Hey guys, I recently got a small box of 2600 games and included was this odd little adapter part.  It was rubber banded around a copy of Omega Race so I got my hopes up for a second but, so far, all I can get it to do is have it disable the joystick's ability to input "left."   I have aptly named this add-on "Zoolander."

 

Picture quality is low, so printed on the adapter is "pointmaster fire control" on one side and "discwasher" on the other. Can anyone help me ID what this part is and what its used for?

I had one that webt with my point master joystick until i put it in the rjb and willie picked it out

Does it only work with that brand of controller?  I'm trying to figure out why mine is causing this adverse effect..

Hmm you know i dont know. I never tried it on any other joystick, but it said on it "for use with the point master"

It should work with any joystick I would think.  My guess would be that it's broken, or possibly just needs to have the pins cleaned.
