Genesis Vs. Mega Drive: Which Name Was Better?

I'm scheduled to be a guest on The Pie Factory Podcast tomorrow to talk about all things Sega Genesis.

I was wondering, which name did you like best: Genesis or Mega Drive?

That's a good question!   The Sega Genesis is one of my favorite systems, but honestly I think Mega-Drive sounded a bit cooler.

Too bad there isn't a way to vote "both names were equally good," because I can't decide. I went along with Genesis because it's what I've been calling the system for years.

Genesis!  Mega Drive sounds like it should play CD's.

I remember seeing a MEGADRIVE bundle back in the day, I liked the name and the look better overall.

Genesis. It may not have been the first console Sega released (more like the third...), but it was the first to make a real mark in America, a true "Beginning" or Genesis, for Sega's best years.

I knew when I declared Mega-Drive to be my choice, Genesis would win the poll.

I had no idea Mega-Drive was even a thing for years. Genesis for me.

Mega Drive and PC Engine both sounded to me like game companies were making heir consoles sound like computers.

I liked Genesis better as it meant the start of something great.

Mega Drive, to me, sounded like either a monster truck or 1980's Heavy Metal Band.

 

I think what you grew up with, can influence your vote however.

 

The guys at the Pie Factory Podcast, also thought Genesis was the better name.

 

Side note: I thought Nomad was an awesome name for a portable Genesis.

Personally I prefer the name Genesis, but Mega Drive isn't bad either.

I am a huge Genesis fanboy but I always liked the Mega Drive branding better.  Great topic!!!
