AtariBrian Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Does any one know if there is a way to mod the nes light gun (that are a dime a dozen) to work on the 7800? Also as for as I can tell there never was a light gun made for the 7800 (except they made games that supported it), the only choice is the xe gun correct? Thanks
Yo-Yo Posted February 18, 2015 Report Posted February 18, 2015 Atari made the XG-1 Light Gun to work on the Atari XE, Atari 2600, and Atari 7800. You could buy it separately in stores as an accessory. People usually think of it as being only for the XEGS because it came packaged with it. AtariSales.com has it available for $29.95 brand new here: http://members.tcq.net/video61/7800new.html Best Electronics also has their own gun for $24.95 brand new here: http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/quickguide.htm Hope that helps
AtariBrian Posted February 18, 2015 Author Report Posted February 18, 2015 Those are great prices (better than used crap on ebay). Thanks, I'm gonna go buy one. Ever heard of an NES gun being modded?
Yo-Yo Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 I've heard of the NES Zapper being modded, but not for Atari. Mostly its been to be used on modern HDTVs. I think Ralph Baer figured this out before he passed away. I have heard of a Sega MasterSystem light gun being modded for use on Atari (you have to change the pin outs) and it's also possible to mod the Sega Saturn light gun too. Your best bet though would be a new gun from the links above probably, but I'd love to see someone mod an NES Zapper for the 7800!
The Professor Posted February 19, 2015 Report Posted February 19, 2015 My personal recommendation is to go with original hardware. It's a rule of thumb I have that's always served me well. I have both guns and like them both though neither live up to the quality of the Zapper.
