nosweargamer Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 We've been doing several Retro Junk Boxes here at atari.io, so much so that some of us have been experiencing low junk supply! With that in mind, how often do you think we should do a Retro Junk Box? You can vote in the poll and discuss your answers in the thread. Arenafoot Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 I think there should be a longer break between boxes. Justin Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 I love the Retro Junk Box! What you guys have been doing with it has been amazing. I think it should be something that needs to always remain a very special part of the forums. That said, Retro Junk Boxes should not overlap each other or overlap the holiday season when we do Secret Santa. I think seasonally, 3-4 times per year depending on participation would be good. Ultimately the demand of those participating should govern the need for a new Junk Box. Rule of thumb: When most everybody participating is ready to go again. LeeJ07 and StormSurge 2 Quote

This will just give us an idea on how to plan for the future. It won't be set in stone, but I think it will help us better schedule them. Also, imho, the latest a junk box should start in a year is early October to avoid the holiday seasons. RickR Posted May 21, 2017 Report Posted May 21, 2017 I voted "twice a year", but I'd call that the bare minimum. I'd be fine with a little more often than that, but we need to allow time to build up a junk supply. These last three have been too close together IMO. It is a great feature of this forum and it's members, that's for sure. I will try to participate as often as I can. greenween and LeeJ07 2 Quote
jmjustin6 Posted May 22, 2017 Report Posted May 22, 2017 I say 3 times a year. I agree that these have been a little too close together. I have put in a couple things that i was not totally ready to get rid of yet, but i did get good stuff in return so its good Starbuck66 1 Quote
StormSurge Posted May 22, 2017 Report Posted May 22, 2017 Not only do I suffer from "low junk supply" but "crappy junk supply" as well. I can't compete with all you Masters of Junk! Quote
Rowsdower70 Posted May 22, 2017 Report Posted May 22, 2017 This last episode has soured me on Junk Boxes for good. I've heard more complaints about it being too soon than I have seen excitement about it.For the record, I did wait a month and a half before sending this out. The prior box was sent out (not by me) while there was a junk box still circulating, and nothing was said about it being too soon at that time, and it did not affect people's excitement. I said I was going to try to host another after Retropalooza in mid May, and again nobody said "too soon!"Either way, I didn't vote in the poll. It's not my problem anymore. Rows, I'm very sorry!!! I hope you don't think I was complaining. If it came across that way, please accept my apologies. And really, I didn't get the vibe that anyone else was complaining either. It seemed to be just a perfect storm of busy lives and the simple fact that we have done 3 junk boxes in just over 4 months. And yes, I contributed very much as I did send RJB 8 out 2 days after RJB 7 ended. I don't think we ever had so many so close together and it brought up a problem that we didn't foresee: Running out of junk! (at least I didn't foresee it, perhaps because I have more stuff I need to get rid of than most) And as the most experienced person here in hosting a junk box, allow me to say that it is very normal for a host of the box to get very excited about hosting it and then get a feeling that other's aren't matching their excitement. I've experienced similar feelings before but usually by the end everyone seems happy and it turns out to be a good experience. You've done an amazing job both as a participant and host and it would be a shame to see you no longer take part in it. I hope by the time we do another, you reconsider, but I understand if you don't. It is sad to see you stop participating in the junk boxes, in which you've been such a wonderful leader. I understand your feeling, though. Justin, Starbuck66, greenween and 1 other 4 Quote

correagonzalez Posted May 24, 2017 Report Posted May 24, 2017 I think twice or 3 times should be good for anyone participating, I can understand if anyone can't keep up due to time between junk boxes too close to each other, every 4 months should be ok at least for me. And it seems the poll favors 3 Junk Boxes a year too. Since the current box will still be going in June, how about we plan for Retro Junk Box X in September? Of course, this isn't set in stone, but that sounds like it should work. I think that's the way to go. I like the schedule. That spaces out mailings with one for each season of the year and leaves 3 months between mailings to accrue more "junk" and get ready for the next box. That leaves us with 3 Retro Junk Boxes per year plus Secret Santa, and a predictable schedule that everybody knows. If everybody is on board with this I'll give it the good ol' I/O stamp of approval. nosweargamer, StormSurge, The Professor and 1 other 4 Quote
