Dallas's MIDI Remixes

Recommended Posts

Out of curiosity, what tools or software are you using to do these remixes? You mention soundfonts so I'm assuming you are using a sound blaster card or something at the heart of it all?

I'm curious because I just picked up last week an old Roland TM-200 and while it can be used as an SC-55 like sound module, it can also be used to play back midi files on diskette through it like a midi jukebox. However, often, the mids I find won't work on it and it is because they are type 1 midi files. But this old sound module can only playback type 0 mid files. So was looking for something easy to use for editing them for conversion and also to change instrumentation on the various channels. Afterall, not all modules sound the same just as soundfonts sound different. So one song that might sound nice on one soundfont or module doesn't sound quite as nice on another. Hence, the need to change instrumentation.

I use Anvil Studio to compose MIDIs and SynthFont to assign soundfonts to individual tracks (I don't have a MIDI soundcard, just soundfont files).

I'll try to explain this in more detail in a future video.
