MaximumRD
Let me start by saying I am not typically a fan of "covers" and yes I am aware that actually a large majority of hit songs / classics are in fact covers themselves but once they became a hit as the version we think of rarely do I like modernized covers as they are often either mangled beyond recognition OR the person doing the cover attempted not so much a tribute but tried too hard to "Make it their own" and more often then not this is NOT an improvement. Having said that, Mike Geier aka Puddles consistently does amazing versions that I have found a pleasure to listen to as well as being wonderful tributes to the originals imho. First some info - this is taken from the Wikipedia to give you background on Mike Geier aka Puddles Big Mike Geier (born March 12, 1964) is an Atlanta, Georgia based singer, entertainer and leader of the band Kingsized. Puddles Pity Party is a persona created by Geier known for appearing in several viral videos on YouTube since 2013, most notably with Scott Bradlee's Postmodern Jukebox. Most of the songs he performs are covers of recent hits. Puddles Pity Party is noted for his distinctive whiteface clown costume, baritone singing voice, depressed persona, not speaking on stage or in interviews, and his unusual height of 6 ft 8 in (2.03 m). Puddles Pity Party performed in Aqua Teen Hunger Force's 2010 tour. In 2011 he regularly appeared in vaudevillian cabaret at Teatro ZinZanni. In 2013, he opened for Eels during their U.S. and European tour. In October 2013, he recorded a cover of Lorde's "Royals" with Postmodern Jukebox on YouTube. As of July 2017 the video has received over 20 million hits. Puddles has collaborated with Bradlee on YouTube several times since. Since 2014 he has toured the world, with concerts in the United States, United Kingdom, Belgium and Australia. Puddles performed on season 12 of America's Got Talent, making it past the audition with 4 yes votes. His September 27, 2014 live performance of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", at the Regency Lodge Ballroom in San Francisco, was filmed by director Gary Yost and was later described by HuffPost as "A Strange Kind Of Beautiful". By July 2017 the video on YouTube had received over 3 million views. OK THAT IS ALL FINE AND DANDY BUT all that matters is the quality of his covers and his amazing voice. Whether you love clowns or have a deadly fear of them Puddles is sure to impress and amaze. I will post some highlights below and let you judge for yourselves, if you do not care for a particular song or genre just select a different video but do yourselves a favor and definitely give some a listen He does fantastic tributes by not screwing up the original songs and doing them justice with his beautiful voice while still managing the give it a "Puddles" twist. Here is a link to his official site http://www.puddlespityparty.com/ Some personal favs - I had been following him for some time before his appearance on America's got Talent so I knew he was going to surprise them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tyr92K218M Now for some more my style He definitely covers some classics that I would be very wary of anyone covering but he pulls them off wonderfully. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3O1XojnTag LOVED THIS and I am a HUGE Bowie fan Even an AMAZING Mash-up I would never of expected he pulls off ! Folsom Prison Blues/Pinball Wizard Shmoosh Up - Johnny Cash - The Who - Puddles Pity Party Same Mash-up Switched around lol Pinball Wizard/Folsom Prison Blues Schmoosh Up - Switcharoo This is so wonderful! Justin
I like that he wears a crown. That's like Ronald McDonald and that creepy Burger King rolled into one. MaximumRD
RickR
Don't forget Bozo. Puddles has been on tour, and I know he's been to Portland at least once. I may have to get some tickets the next time he's in town. MaximumRD
