RickR Posted May 17, 2024 Report Posted May 17, 2024 We watched it last night. Enjoyable, but some of this doesn't make sense. Spoiler An archive in space that moves? Who pays for this thing? How did it move, and how did they supply it during "the burn"? Note how Discovery almost blows up just getting to the archive AND needs a special library card to even open communication. The Breen? No problem. If the primarch is L'ak's uncle, then isn't he also related to the emperor? Wouldn't he have kept L'ak under his thumb instead of going all Erigah on him? This guy seems like a one-note fool, making major decisions based on very sketchy information provided by a "human" that he has no reason to trust. The combination of ideas here -- super powerful Breen in a giant ship, the ability to track the spore drive, no attempt to hide/deceive by Starfleet, the super powers of Moll/L'ak, only one Starfleet ship involved....there's just too much to swallow. I hate being negative, but this is Star Trek. It needs to make sense. This feels more like "Somehow, Palpatine returned". On a positive note, I like the puzzle solving for each clue, and production values are top notch in this episode. Sabertooth and DegasElite 2 Quote

Makes no sense but I guess this is why he ends up dead at the end of the episode. Edited May 17, 2024 by TrekMD DegasElite 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Remember, this was not meant to be a true series finale, so they were expecting to have another season to continue the story. Also, the strikes last year definitely impacted the writing, compressing the time to get stories done. I noticed the same thing on other 2024 shows, like "Ghosts" on CBS. Definitely a step down in writing quality due to the strike. Truly a shame they didn't get an extra year to build on the momentum. TrekMD, Sabertooth and DegasElite 3 Quote
Sabertooth Posted June 3, 2024 Author Report Posted June 3, 2024 I just got to this late Saturday night. The wrap up of the main plot felt very Last Crusade to me. I enjoyed the coda and connection to the Short Trek episode Calypso, as well as to Enterprise. Understanding that they had to re-shoot to end the series after wrapping the season, I think they did an admirable job. Just think of how they must have all been feeling - writers, showrunners and actors - going in to quickly adapt the story after getting the ax. It's not "All Good Things...", but it definitely felt like a true ending that was handled with care. DegasElite, TrekMD and RickR 3 Quote
RickR Posted June 3, 2024 Report Posted June 3, 2024 Great points! One more...watching Star Trek is always a fun thing, but watching together with you guys and chatting about it here has made it even better! TrekMD Posted June 3, 2024 Report Posted June 3, 2024 Well, Prodigy season 2 is coming to Netflix in July! That'll be before SNW! If you didn't watch it on Paramount +, I suggest you watch the first season on Netflix. It is a well written show, even if it is meant for kids. You can tell the people who worked on this show LOVE Star Trek and understand it. RickR, DegasElite and Sabertooth 3 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
