HDN
Cilantro will always be one of my favorite flavors. Whenever I get Mexican street tacos or something I make sure to pile that sky-high with cilantro and onions, and then drown it in lime. MMMMM! But a couple of months ago I found out that to some people, Cilantro tastes like leafy flakes of soap. I don't remember what causes it; if you know please reply down below as that would really help. But I digress. What do you guys think of cilantro? RickR

socrates63
Cilantro a big 👎 for me and my wife. If it tasted like soap to me, that might be considered an improvement. It's a bit tricky to describe, but for me, it's a nauseating taste and smell. The worst is when it's in hot soup like pho where the scent really comes out. I can tolerate it in salsa. I like other aromatic herbs like basil. My wife and I are big fans of basil, but cilantro just doesn't work for us. My older son loves it and younger son is fine with it though. RickR
I think it's fine. I've heard to "soap" thing too, but I haven't experienced that. I'd say it is pretty strong and can overpower other flavors. So RickR uses is sparingly. I'll go with "friendly acquaintance". socrates63 and HDN
Atari 5200 Guy
Has to be an acquired taste for me ... And I have not acquired it yet. At least not on the scale originally posted. But as a ground up flavor aid used lightly then, yea, it is OK. HDN and socrates63
RickR
PS - Street Tacos are the best, and you're right...a squeeze of lime and whatever portions of additives the chef adds is pure magic. We're blessed with some of the very best food carts here, and street tacos are a staple. dauber
EATING it is a friend; PREPARING it is a foe...such a PITA to do. Have to pluck the leaves off the stem, which takes a long friggin' time, and it's very difficult to successfully store properly if you don't eat it all in one sitting. SuperTrooper
Cilantro is a must in any salsa worth eating, and it's good on just about everything. HDN
Control Issues
I like cilantro. It's great on tacos and nachos and similar foods. There's a lot of people who say it tastes like soap. I think it's a genetic thing? Can't remember for sure, but I think I saw something like that. HDN
