I never knew this little slice of Atari existed, so allow me to introduce myself.

My name is Cousin Vinnie aka Funkmaster V, and I have been spending the month resurrecting my old site (Cousin Vinnie's Atari 7800 Panoramic Froo Froo) under the new moniker: atari 7800 forever.

So far we have most old news articles and cheats and about half of the reviews that we had up on the old site. Plus several videos, Funk vs. Atari Challenges plus some new reviews, and articles like  "All Final Bosses Ranked".

Check it out... its gonna be a nice online resource.

Atari 7800 forever? Sounds awesome! I got one of these bad boys a couple months ago, and it’s awesome! Thanks for sharing, @Funkmaster V!

The best part about my 7800 is the I/O connection. This site convinced me to purchase one, and it also is where I got the vast majority of my games (along with AtariAge).

Over on Atari 7800 Forever... we had  ourselves a time kicking it with this homebrew and making fun of its terrible name.

Hi @Funkmaster V and welcome to the forums from a fellow 7800 fan!

I have a couple suggestions that might help:

1) When creating a thread, include content and not just links that redirect to your site. For instance, go ahead post your whole review here and include a link to where you originally posted it. Just saying "Go check out my new review at my site" is something better suited for status updates.

2) I checked out your review on your site, but when I did, I  got stuck on that page and found no way to explore more of your site. I'm guessing you just forgot to add a Home link/button.

Hope this helps and feel free to introduce yourself here:

This is a super friendly site and I think you'll get a warm welcome there!

@nosweargamer Vinnie has been around awhile and the 7800 has been his retro console of choice since I knew of him back in the JoseQ's Emuviews days.

Good point about his lack of a homepage link, but I hadn't noticed until you said this because I use the back button more than anything these days and especially so as my mouse has a back button on it LOL.

@Funkmaster V NSG has a point and you should have links to go back to the homepage, back to the reviews section, etc. Both at the top of the page and bottom of the pages. Would make it much easier for those checking out your site to be able to navigate through all of its content you have to offer!

I always use back buttons, but you are right. I'll add a link to get back to the root page.

In Defense of 9 Oft-Berated Atari 7800 Games... Like every other subject, people's opinions widely vary on video games. But in terms of the 7800 library, there's a semblance of solidarity. The enthusiasts normally agree on what's the cream of the crop titles and what's the worst of the worst. But there exists a handful of games that sometimes see uncanny vitriol... so pointed, so bombastic... that it borders on shameful mendacity. I feel like these nine games get an unfair bad rap. Some of them are terrific, and some are just OK, but all are worth a second look.

Tell me what you thank, ya'll? Are these 9 worthy of love?

I think your list and retorts are spot on.  But I'd have left off Ninja-Golf and added "Impossible Mission".  There is no retort for a game that cannot be finished (other than the title of the game specifically says it's IMPOSSIBLE).

Oh, and the one thing that really bothers me about Planet Smashers is how you are flying a PLANE in SPACE!  Could we have gotten a better ship design?  Otherwise, I think that's a great game.

In the 7800 community, most of us are very fond of Ninja Golf. But in other retro game communities, people dog it sometimes for the reasons I provided.

Impossible Mission is great. I beat it on the Wii, in fact. And beating Possible Mission on the 7800 is one of the best gaming moments of my life. LOL. That was cathartic.

"Plane" Smashers could be vastly improved with a small graphical hack and fixed audio. The audio is atrocious... and a plane in space is stupid. Atari dorked up their protagonists in almost every single game: Adventure, Centipede, Midnight Mutants, Motorpsycho, Fatal Run, Mean 18, Super Skateboardin', Scrapyard Dog, Planet Smashers, etc etc etc.

For me the attraction in Combat 1990 is that it's a one-player game. The reason I didn't like Combat on the 2600 is that it requires two players: given that when we got the 2600 in 1982 my brother was (and, actually, still is, now that I think of it!) ten years older than me, I was kinda-sorta an only child for all practical purposes. Yeah, I had friends, but they didn't always want to play Combat!

Supernatural, perhaps...baloney, perhaps not.

That's a very good point. I'll add that to the review

My computer has crapped out for almost a month, but tonight I got it working, and finished a review WITH NO TYPOS. Scramble is one of my favorite Pac Man Plus homebrews and one of the very best shooters on the system.

I have also recently finished reviews for Crazy Brix, Super Circus Atari Age, Astro Fighter and Serpentine. Check them out!

Besides doing the super fun 7800 homebrew reviews I have been trying to knock out the original library's reviews, too. I've updated several from the old site that Crossbow and I did 15 or so years ago.

Did you know that HAT TRICK features a racist song? Read all about it, I just finished reviewing it. Also reviews for Food Fight, Galaga, Double Dragon, Donkey Kong, Jr. have been completed with minimal typos. Hoo-Ha

Fail Safe is one of my favorite thinking man's games on the Atari 7800, and I finally got to review the damned thing after all these years.

And I look at a project that two pals tag teamed up on, a thing they call "Gunkan Blast". The goal of the project? To see how much the Atari 7800 can graphically handle at once. Checkout the article on the front page to see what's up.

I have Fail Safe and it's a great original by Bob DeCrescenzo.

Gunkan Blast looks amazing! I hope they make it a full fledged game and do a cart release! Thanks for sharing! I'll definitely be spending some time on your site.
