Toki is one of the missing prototypes in the Atari 7800 library... but it's not really missing. Here's where it is, and why you can't play it.

Interesting, I thought Toki was going to be an upcoming release.

I heard something similar to what Vinnie reports. They went so far to have the rom made to work on NTSC consoles (I heard originally it was pal) and then the guy said he wasn't going to release it. I've heard everything from he's scared of legal troubles with whomever owns the property to the idea that's he's essentially holding it for big bucks. I'm not sure what the actual truth it but I never thought toki was a bad game and it's bs that somebody is withholding it "just because". If that is the truth. As Vinnie said, we are all going to be in the ground or living in nursing homes soon and nobody will care anymore.

Bentely Bear Backlash!
In recent years, I've seen that there has been some confusion and real life tears in regards to Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. It all stems from Bobby D astutely inventing a "C Button" for the Pro System. Here's how to fix the confusion with the game in the modern age where people use emulation more than consoles.

For those who are into emulation of retro games, Trebor (from Trebor's Stuff) just updated his Atari 7800 ROM Pack for the first time in about a year. There are dozens and dozens of games, gimmicks and updates to check out. Links to java based emulators, my thoughts on a few of the updates, and the link to the ROM Pack itself is located here:

Hobby Programmer Brek Brixius (SiO2) has a new Etsy store, and apparently I was his first customer! Brek showered me with funktastic gifts that I will reveal in the video and we will take a look at this awesome looking cart and Brek's take on the old Atari 2600 game Fast Food! #atari #atari7800

Over the last few decades, only a small number of unreleased prototypes were discovered for the Atari 7800. Some are masterpieces, some are not playable at all. At Atari7800Forever.com, we rank the top 10 that have been found. #atari7800

I've been horsing around and mostly enjoying Micro Center's Atari Ultimate Dual Fight Stick with Trac Ball for a year and a half, and have had an Atari Spinner installed for a year (it was very easy to do). After all that time, I have discovered (for myself at least) which 10 games utilize the machine the best with the emulators I currently have. This is my top ten list- They are not the best games of all time, but the best on this particular hardware... that I have discovered.

Surprise! You dirty hookers!

Jon Stoll, Jr. (AKA Silverback) is helping me catch up on reviewing and creating content in the midst of an Atari 7800 scene that has amazingly gotten more and more frantic in the last few years. When we catch up on all of the original release reviews, we can delve into the more fun and unpredictable waters. Here's what has been recently added to www.atari7800forever.com

Silverback reviews Mario Brothers, Ms. Pac Man, Kung Fu Master, Pole Position 2. Silverback interviews Frankodragon (Roof Pooper, Fat Axl, Hearty Manslapper). Funkmaster V interviews Muddyfunster (EXO, Danger Zone, Bernie)

People have asked me to review Moon Cresta at www.Atari7800Forever.com for years, and tonight was the night history finally happened. After playing the arcade version of Moon Cresta for a bit... it was time, once again, to give the Prosystem one a whirl. I have always hated this game. But over time... did my initial disgust recede? Click the lank to find out, Jeeves.

We had a great Atari Age Day, playing all 4 of the funktastic 7800 games that was shipped on Saturday to the Mothership. We squeezed out a Knight Guy review and updated Dragon's Descent after playing it on cart for the first time. See what we thought--- more reviews from Funkmaster V, Silverback, and Crossbow coming soon!!!

@Funkmaster V

I just released a full 100% secrets reveal play through last night on my YT channel. The one secret you are missing is on the very first screen you start from. But you have to first go to other screens and then come back before you can get it. It is how you acquire the 8 lives total count.

Thanks! Not my fastest time though. When i was really testing it out, I was routinely finishing with over 35min left. I've lost some of my timing since then LOL! The game used to be MUCH easier before Vlad added in his patented "Anti CB Traps" on many of the screens.

An example is the first room that has the little red and blue orb things that move left and right with the ladder on the left of the screen? There is a big wall of spike to the right of the ladder. Originally that wall of spikes didn't exist and I found out that as soon as you entered the room, you could just jump off that ledge and clear both of those orbs easily. So...yeah stuff like that, that he saw me doing in my private play testing videos to him, is what made quite a few of the screen designs become the way they are.

As you saw though, he still left some of the stuff I do be possible to still get through some of the tricky stuff easier on the back tracking.

Atari 50th Anniversary Collection Game List

I spent some time going through that pretty pimp hype video pinpointing all of the games that will be included in this collection so far, and it looks like you can ID 40-41... there's a computer game I can't identify in one clip.

This isn't your typical nostalgic Atari cash grab... looks worth it so far.

Besides Basketbrawl, the 7800 selection looks pretty boring. I'm also surprised that no one ever contacts our hobby programmers for your awesome Homebrews. Those would be so sweet to include in these things.

PS: Im uploading three new reviews this week: Silverback tackles Sentinel, Meltdown, and Wizard's Dungeon

WOO HOO!

It took us almost two years to do it, but we finally have in-depth written reviews posted for all 58 7800 official releases on the site. Some of you may or may now know, but we did the same thing back in the double aughts on a site called "Cousin Vinnie's Atari 7800 Panoramic Froo-Froo". Back in the early 2000's, I wanted to make an Atari site that was less tech oriented, but more fun and approachable for potential new fans to the system. I lost that domain, and it was a shame that I let it go. But its OK now I guess because the new site is better written, has over 100 reviews total, features more articles and is more functional. It also includes all of the old applicable articles from the old site, too. Thanks to Crossbow and Silverback for helping speed up the review process with their great reviews. Because of them, I didn't have to play some real duds, LOL.

The last game review published tonight was Tomcat... and what is hilarious is that Tomcat was the last game I reviewed of the official releases on the old site. I had no idea it was until I checked the Wayback Machine. I hate those flight sims.

Now we will focus on improving formatting, correcting typos, reviewing homebrews, hacks, oddities, and creating new interesting articles, cheat code pages, and eventually converting these reviews to Youtube videos. Thanks to anyone that enjoys the site!

Latest reviews:

Crossbow reviews Rampage

Crossbow reviews F-18 Hornet

Silverback reviews Meltdown

Silverback reviews Sentinel

Funkmaster V reviews Tomcat

We are gonna be releasing Silverback's review of Wizard's Dungeon very soon... but to tide you over:

We look into several prototypes and hacks: Rampart, Star Wars, GATO, Pit Fighter

and there's a much sunnier update to the site's "Atari 7800 Biography". No more doom and gloom. It's the 7800's time to shine!

Thanks for the love! www.Atari7800Forever.com

I tested the crap outta this game. It was fun to find all the initial exploits that of course were removed from the final version of the game. As an example, in earlier builds of the game, it was possible to get the wizard boss stuck on his tree in the center of his arena screen and then use the lightning to take him out since the lightning had the ability to go through obstacles to take out enemies. So I used it to stay safe on the other side of walls and the like. I believe in the end the lightning was made to be much less effective through walls and a second tree was added to the center of the arena to prevent the wizard boss from getting stuck and so you couldn't spam him with lightning through the obstacle.

Fun game but after playing it so much during testing I did get burnt out a bit on it and haven't played it as much since.

In a year that features around 15 amazing 7800 Homebrews hitting the scene, leave it to Atari 7800 Forever to review a tandem of 12 year old games of ill repute. Everyone has an opinion about the man that made these games... now there's some ink about the carts themselves.
