Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or YouTube video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between July 1st through July 14th, 2021. Screen captures are not allowed as they are more easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the competition is the victor!

Eligibility

Anyone can join in. All players are welcome!

Play Rules

Games may be played on real hardware, Flashback / Mini console, or emulation, using any controller or keyboard, following all rules and game settings defined in the challenge. Choosing between real hardware or emulation, and choosing which controller to play on is part of formulating your strategy. Enhancements, rewinds and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

Difficulty Level

We are playing on "Skill One" which has Difficult Switches set to B/B.

Fair Play

Your integrity is everything. Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that we will not allow cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, rewinds, deceitful photo manipulation, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage. Everybody hates a cheater.

Welcome to our 103rd Squad Challenge!!! Today we're playing Venture for the Atari 2600. Venture was an Exidy arcade game, originally ported to the 2600 by Coleco. After the industry collapse in 1983, Coleco sold the rights to their library of 2600 games to Atari under Jack Tramiel, who began re-releasing these games in 1986 as official Atari products in the red box variants. ROM and PDF Instruction Manual are provided below. I hope you all have fun, and good luck to everybody participating!

NOTE: We have a supreme lineup of games coming your way for High Score Squad in 2021! Expect a nice mix of classic Atari home console games in the rotation along with games from other classic systems! Here's a look at some upcoming events:

July: A Sega Master System game, HSW Day Ultimate Yars' Challenge, plus a game chosen by our Instagram followers!

September: An Atari Lynx game

November: A Sega Genesis game

December: 2021 F-ZERO Championship, plus a game for Atari Jaguar!

Plus many more great games! (Schedule subject to change)

I need to play some more to see if I can get a better score.  By the way, has anyone seen and tried Venture Reloaded?

Wow!  That addresses my biggest complaint with the Atari 2600 version - The rooms get filled in after you are finished with them.  I might have to check it out at some point... I hope that you can turn the music off though!

They usually have a way to disable the background music as they know some people like to sneek a few games in in the middle of everybody sleeping :P

5300. I keep having to remind myself this isn’t berserk, and it’s OK to touch the walls LOL

You can still pretend it's Berzerk but as you play as Evil Otto & are allowed to touch the walls ( Did anyone else think they were playing as him? -or- was it just me )

The question is this: Can I post these progressing scores without usurping the high score? I don't want to steal the wind from anyone's sails. That's all. Thanks. :O)

Keep'on posting!  That's the idea!  Funny enough, I got a much higher score playing Venture Reloaded than playing Venture.  It goes to show how well programmed the Reloaded version is!

🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...

Venture Reloaded is definitely well-programmed. Unlike the original Venture program, it shows the bonus timer, the treasures collected, and all the original screens in the maps. I also noticed the maps are more compact on-screen. Maybe, this was done for better enhancements to the game. My theory. Thanks for letting me share. :O)
