VectorGamer Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 I'd really like to know how many quarters this game took in. Reason being this game was released in the late 70s - why would you play this game more than once when you can play the real deal? There were plenty of pinball machines available at the time Video Pinball was released it's not like today where you have to travel an hour to find an arcade with multiple pinball machines. In that respect I think video pinball makes more sense today but not back in the 70s and 80s. If you have a chance to play Video Pinball they have a cab at Funspot. It's neat but I'd rather play pinball. In on last page. ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683
Arenafoot Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 They had one at the 2014 Houston ArcadeExpo.....and I played it a few times. Its OK, but definitely not as good as a real pinball machine........ Yo-Yo Posted July 8, 2015 Report Posted July 8, 2015 FACT: Video Pinball came out. Then Atari became the fastest growing company in American history. Coincidence?

The Professor Posted July 19, 2015 Report Posted July 19, 2015 I would say Video Pinball was successful because it's remembered fondly and still interesting to talk about. It helped stage that "video carnival" feel for early Atari and is a neat example of them trying new things. Thanks for posting those awesome photos Arenafoot!
Arenafoot Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I enjoyed the 2600 version. I prefer Midnight Magic Brian Matherne - owner/curator of "The MOST comprehensive list of Atari VCS/2600 homebrews ever compiled." http://tiny.cc/Atari2600Homebrew author of "The Atari 2600 Homebrew Companion" book series available on Amazon! www.amazon.com/author/brianmatherne
StormSurge Posted August 5, 2015 Report Posted August 5, 2015 I prefer Midnight Magic I guess I need to play that.
VectorGamer Posted August 5, 2015 Author Report Posted August 5, 2015 Video Pinball on the 2600 is garbage. Just my opinion. Midnight Magic is a better game. Of all the video pinball games I've played recently I would say Pinball on the NES is the best on the 8-bit consoles. I played the arcade game while I was at the PA Coin-Op Hall of Fame and it was a fun game. But, when you compare it to pinball machines released during that era I wonder why this machine would get more plays than the real deal. ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683
VectorGamer Posted August 5, 2015 Author Report Posted August 5, 2015 Because it was novel and different. And because of that I can see why it would get some play initially. But replays - I don't know... ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683
Arenafoot Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 I guess I need to play that. even Bumper Bash is better than video pinball.............. StormSurge Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 Hey, all I know is I enjoyed playing it when back when I was 7 years old. I didn't have anything to compare it with!
RickR Posted August 6, 2015 Report Posted August 6, 2015 I liked it a lot too, and still do. It isn't very authentic compared to real pinball, but it is a lot of fun.
