Atari 5200 Guy Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 I was playing SMB while waiting on dinner on my Famicom. Everyone's played SMB enough to know how the game should act. When you play a game so many times a game's behavior to your actions become memorized. You begin to expect what the game will do. So I'm playing SMB and did 1-1 no issues. Started playing 1-2, got the star, did the Dukes of Hazzard slide under the wall, killed a Gomba and jumped to get four coins on top of bricks. Look at what the last coin did. It turned into a "W". I've never seen this happen before and just thought it was interesting. It flashes like the coins do, too. Maybe Wario was in this game trying to create his version of McDonald's??? As many times as I've played this game throughout the decades I've never seen it do a glitch like this. Weird. datafry 1 Quote
Justin Posted February 19, 2022 Report Posted February 19, 2022 This is the Japanese cartridge playing on the Japanese system? Is that the Crown symbol? Quote

It's both to your first two questions. As for it being a crown it doesn't look exactly like that. It's one color used by the coins in the game and it cycles. It could be, though. Hard to say for sure. If it is then it is only part of it. Still interesting to say the least knowing how much effort the developers went through to find and remove bugs. Quote

Exactly! It might not be a bug, it might be a feature of the game that was removed before it reached US audiences. The Crown symbol confused players too, and it looks quite similar. Quote
Atari 5200 Guy Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 What does that crown mean? I've never seen it before. Quote
Atari 5200 Guy Posted February 19, 2022 Author Report Posted February 19, 2022 Oh, and I've repeated it to see if I can get it to happen again but no luck. Quote
