For this challenge we're celebrating the life of Nukey Shay along with Atari National Pac-Man Day which takes place every year on April 3rd. Pac-Man 8K is a beautiful hack of Atari's original Pac-Man for the 2600, but with many improvements to demonstrate what could have been done at the time had Atari taken a different path. Do you think if Atari had released Nukey Shay's 8K version of Pac-Man in 1981 that it would've changed history and things might have been different? ROM is provided below. GOOD LUCK! Marco1019 Posted April 5, 2022 Report Posted April 5, 2022 I gave this one a go as I had never played it previously. 47660. It's quite a rework of the original 2600 version, but I doubt I'll play it further. Justin, Gianna, Sabertooth and 1 other 4

It's still Atari's Pac-Man but with enough elements of the arcade original to make it a respectable port. I have said this more than once: had Atari released something like this back then, people would have been more accepting of it. I have said this more than once: had Atari released something like this back then, people would have been more accepting of it. There's even intermission scenes! It's more than enough for the average person to look back at the orignal 2600 version and ask, "Did they even try?" Sabertooth 1
TrekMD Posted April 5, 2022 Report Posted April 5, 2022 Very true. The intermissions being included speaks volumes about this version. 🙂 Sabertooth 1 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...

The intermissions being included speaks volumes about this version. 🙂 The screen rolls on the intermission on my UAV modded 7800. It's fine in emulation. I'll have to drag out a 2600 to see if I have the issue there. Honestly, all Atari needed to do was choose the right color scheme and it would have been that much better. The idea that they messed up their exclusive home version of the hottest video game property out there speaks volumes about their leadership at the time. Edited April 7, 2022 by Sabertooth RickR 1
RickR Posted April 7, 2022 Report Posted April 7, 2022 The intermissions go nuts on my 2600jr too. I think that's a known issue with his version. The screen colors make such a big difference. Plus the ghosts seem a lot more aggressive on this version. And don't forget the changing fruits. And Pac Man chomping in all four directions.... TrekMD and Sabertooth 2
TrekMD Posted April 8, 2022 Report Posted April 8, 2022 I just had a cart made of this game. I'll have to test it to see but I do believe the screen roll is an issue when used on real hardware during the intermissions. Justin and Sabertooth 2 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
