TrekMD Posted May 14, 2022 Report Posted May 14, 2022 Has anyone watched this show? The third season will be here on June 2nd (on Hulu). Here is a preview for this season... MaximumRD 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
MaximumRD Posted May 14, 2022 Report Posted May 14, 2022 Indeed, looking forward to it. RickR Posted May 14, 2022 Report Posted May 14, 2022 Not me. Is it worth the time? I think I watched a few episodes of season 1 but didn't really like it. Sabertooth 1 Quote
TrekMD Posted May 15, 2022 Author Report Posted May 15, 2022 You didn't give it a chance. The show changed on Season 2 and it matured with a two-part episode called "Identity." Think of is "The Best of Both Worlds" for The Orville. RickR 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
- Ω - Posted June 9, 2022 Report Posted June 9, 2022 Okay, I admit it, I'm getting older and simply cannot keep up with all the stuff out there in the Internet Wasteland. However today, I came across something that has been out for a number of years called The Orville. If you've seen it, can you give me a little perspective on the series? Is it any good? My first impressions after watching a trailer were, the colors were turned up too much, the makeup was overdone, the show didn't seem serious, more of a parody. Now that was from one trailer, so I figured I'd ask. Quote <<< My YouTube Page >>>
DegasElite Posted June 9, 2022 Report Posted June 9, 2022 It is a science fiction series not unlike Star Trek, but I think it is a comedy. I have never seen it, so I know very little about it. It was on Fox for awhile, and it is on Hulu, from my understanding. From what it sounds like, it is a parody of Star Trek. Quote
RickR Posted June 9, 2022 Report Posted June 9, 2022 I don't know a lot either. I think @TrekMDmentioned in one of the other Star Trek threads that it's worthwhile. I don't remember the details, but I think he said there's a point in the series where it gets really good. When the show was new, I watched two episodes and quit, as I thought it was too silly. But at some point, I plan on trying again. Sounds like it took them a little while to find their groove. Kind of like how Star Trek:TNG was awful in season 1. Quote
TrekMD Posted June 9, 2022 Author Report Posted June 9, 2022 Yep, the show really matured and season 3 takes up a few notches, from what I've heard. Give it a chance. RickR 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
TrekMD Posted June 13, 2022 Author Report Posted June 13, 2022 I finally watched the first episode of the third season. Wow, that was excellent! RickR 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
RickR Posted June 13, 2022 Report Posted June 13, 2022 The show is in my queue for future consumption. Quote
Sabertooth Posted June 13, 2022 Report Posted June 13, 2022 This lost me in the first few episodes of Season 1. I just didn't care for the humor. I've heard anecdotally that many people enjoy it more than the rebooted Trek shows from Paramount+ so maybe I'm missing something. I imagine it is at least better than Picard Season 2. 😅 RickR 1 Quote
TrekMD Posted June 13, 2022 Author Report Posted June 13, 2022 (edited) You need to keep watching. The show changes and the humor is toned down quite a bit. The third season opener episode was actually quite serious and more like Star Trek. I almost stopped watching myself early on but pushed on and the show finally grabbed me. RickR Posted June 13, 2022 Report Posted June 13, 2022 I had the same issue with "Lower Decks", and I'm told that one also grows on you (but I don't think they toned down the humor). I started and quit after two episodes. I'll give both shows another chance when they get to the top of our queue. If @TrekMDsays it's good, that works for me. Sabertooth 1 Quote

TrekMD Posted July 16, 2022 Author Report Posted July 16, 2022 Has anyone tried watching the show? The 3rd season has really been fantastic! Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
RickR Posted July 16, 2022 Report Posted July 16, 2022 Not yet, but it's still on my list. My wife and I are currently watching "Only Murders in the Building", which has been good. TrekMD 1 Quote
TrekMD Posted July 25, 2022 Author Report Posted July 25, 2022 If you don't have Hulu and you want to watch The Orville, this will be of interest: ‘The Orville’ will stream on Disney+ starting August 10th RickR 1 Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
peteym5 Posted July 26, 2022 Report Posted July 26, 2022 "Now Entering Glory Hole...." I love this show. The two episodes involving Topa in season 3 are fantastic. Explaining what happened with the Kylon I like. Not going to give too much away. I also liked the episode when they went down to the planet and bizarre stuff starts happening. Quote
TrekMD Posted July 26, 2022 Author Report Posted July 26, 2022 I've only seen one episode with Topa but I do agree, that one was excellent and very topical for out time. Quote 🖖 Going to the final frontier, gaming...
