Squad Challenge ends 11:59 pm PST July 31, 2022

Objective

Play for the highest possible score using the difficulty settings defined in the challenge. Post a photo or YouTube video of your score in this thread. Scores must be achieved between July 1st through July 31, 2022.  Screen captures are not allowed as they are more easily manipulated for falsified scores. Multiple submissions are permitted. The player with the highest score at the end of the competition is the victor!

Eligibility

This is a Club VCS Exclusive Challenge. All Club VCS players are welcome!

Play Rules

Games may be played on real Atari VCS hardware. Choosing which controller to play on is part of formulating your strategy. Enhancements, rewinds and hacked versions of this game are not allowed.

Difficulty Level

We are playing Breakout: Recharged in the "Classic Recharged" mode. This mode starts with 3 balls and includes the power-ups of the default recharged mode!  More balls!  Higher scores!

Fair Play

Your integrity is everything. Players should play fairly, be honest, and have fun! Falsified scores will result in your immediate removal from the site. It goes without saying that we will not allow cheats, hacks, cartridge frying, enhancements, rewinds, deceitful photo manipulation, subterfuge, or any other unfair advantage. Everybody hates a cheater.

Message

Welcome to our fifth Club VCS Recharged Squad Challenge!!! For this challenge we're playing Breakout: Recharged! Released in February 2022, Breakout: Recharged is a re-imagining of Atari's classic brick breaker!

Breakout: Recharged was a bit of a departure from the other Recharged titles in that it was the first non-shooter, has a somewhat different visual style, and was the first to offer a three life (ball) mode.  We're going to celebrate this by playing in Classic Recharged Mode!

Club VCS Recharged Squad Contest

This is the fifth and final round of our first Club VCS Recharged Squad Contest giveaway!

After this game, we will hold a drawing for the winner's choice of one (1) Atari VCS Modern Controller or (1) VCS Classic Joystick Controller!

The top scorer of each challenge will receive three (3) additional entries - for a total of four (4) entries in a single challenge!

This contest is open to everybody, including Atari I/O Moderators, with a U.S. or Canada mailing address. It's really easy, all you have to do is participate be a Club VCS member and participate in our Recharged Squad Challenges.

I don't have this one yet, will pick it up this weekend.  I have always loved Breakout but it never seems to work right without the paddle controller.  How does the Classic Joystick feel with it?  When trying the other Breakout games I always find the controls to sensitive or the movement not fluid.  Not sure how to explain it.  That is with using modern type controllers in the Vault or the Atari Classics on the Switch.

I purchased Gravitar Recharged...no problem.

I purchased Breakout Recharged, and the VCS froze up after charging my card.  No download link anywhere!  I've contacted customer support using the like on the invoice.  I'm sure they'll fix it or refund me.

Anyway, what did I do wrong so I don't do that mistake again.  Is it because I bought two games in a row in the same session?

Whatever the issue was, Atari customer support fixed it pretty quickly.  Once they adjusted my account, the download was available.  A+ support.

Good to hear. I think they're just having server issues due to the sale.

Loving this game, don’t know why I waited so long to get it.  Would love to know what all the power ups do, come on Atari at least put it on the games page on the website.  Anybody know what the + sign power up does? I can’t tell if it does anything.

Anyways done for the night, here are my first night scores.

I think you mean the powerup that will change the blocks on the top different colors.

I think it changes blocks to yellow blocks that will explode when hit.

I did notice a color change but wasn’t paying attention to the blocks.  I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Didnt realize it was Classic Recharged until I went to post my score, but just finally hit above 10k in the Recharged version so should be decent for this one.

Whoops!  Me either.  I was playing the 1-ball version.  I'm coming for you guys next game.
