CrossBow
Umm... well that anyone would be someone like me I guess? I don't have that specific device but I do own one of these: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/digital-music-players-nw-nwz-a-series/nwz-a17 I believe it cost me about $300 back when I bought it new. As to the why? Simple. I was previously a ZUNE and ZUNE HD user and loved it. But when support for the specific Zune software would no longer work on modern OSes, I realized I would need something better and easier to load music onto. I decided I waned something that could handle hi resolution audio as well so I bought the NWZ-a17 only mine is black in color vs the silver. It just plugs into the usb board and shows up as removable storage making it easy to copy music to/from. So why did I buy it and still use it? Well until very very recently, I still did NOT own a mobile phone of my own. I did have a work provided mobile phone, but they were bare bones and had very limited storage. Sure, I could add a MicroSD to it, but I didn't like the idea of using my work phone for anything personal and I didn't like having a reason to want to keep it with me all the time. So I really didn't have a phone at that point in time that could handle and playback hi-resolution audio. I'm sure my new personal mobile phone can do this, but I still find it easier to load my Walkman up with the music I want to hear and enjoy the long battery life it has. I usually have it when I fly somewhere. I usually have it when I fly somewhere. Hey, me too! I have a Sansa Fuse. I've had it for a long time. Here's why I like it more than using my phone: It sounds better. It has full equalizer settings. It plays more audio formats. It does audiobooks that I can get from the library and is so old, it doesn't pay any attention to the due-date. I can listen until I'm done. The battery lasts a LOOOOOONG time. For traveling and flights, this thing is always with me. I load it up with audiobooks and music and pretty much zone out. It's tiny enough to fit in any pocket and I don't really care about it getting lost or running out of battery. Meanwhile, my phone is put away, in "airplane mode", and I'll need full battery when we get to the destination for maps. What I don't like: No bluetooth. Earbuds must be wired. It's super old. If anyone gets a glimpse of it, they are curious or even judgemental. Not that I mind. It has a proprietary charging cable. I hate having to drag that on trips too. All that said, the one linked above seems way too pricey to me. But when mine finally dies, I'll be in the market for a more modern alternative. CrossBow
Yeah the Sony I have does us a special charge cable for it. But it does have bluetooth and works great with wireless speaker systems. Although it is old now so I don't know what generation of blue tooth it uses but nice to have. It doesn't have any fancy apps or anything like my Zune did so no browsing the web as I don't believe it even has Wi-Fi as it is a purpose built audio playback device. At the time, it was one of the few that could play Hi-Def FLAC files (What I tend to rip everything too), and again with the ability to not require specific software to load/unload music to it, it has been way easier to use when I just want some music to listen to privately. I should note that it was not easy to load up music to the Zune as it had DRM type stuff with it so I either had to rip it myself through the Zune software or purchase it from the Zune store back them. I still have the Zune HD with the box but it has no use these days. CrossBow
BTW...why are my posts now requiring mod approval? I don't recall that being a thing previously? Click on your name, upper right, then "My attachments" to see. I'm not sure what else it could be, but we'll get you fixed up for sure. Shows I've only used about 1/4 of the space allotted for me for attachments? Interestingly enough when I replied to ask why my post was requiring mod approval, that reply did NOT require it. Only the initial post directly before it stated it required mod approval? Didn't know if I used some keyword that triggered something or what? This reply...also did not require approval. RickR
Maybe the word "Zune" is offensive to nerds :) Atari 5200 Guy
Atari 5200 Guy
I love my 4th Gen iPod Shuffle. I have a blue one.
Atari 5200 Guy
Then again I one that still uses a 30-40 year old turntable, cassette deck, and 5-disc CD changer to listen to music. I'd rather have physical media over digital.
