For this challenge we're taking on the newest entry in Atari's Recharged Series: Yars: Recharged! Yars: Recharged is a modern take on Yars' Revenge, the 1982 smash hit for the Atari 2600. Programmed by the incomparable Howard Scott Warshaw, Yars’ Revenge went on to become the best-selling original title for the platform. This is quite a legacy to live up to. At its core, Yars: Recharged is a twin-stick shooter. It borrows elements of Yars’ Revenge and combines it with a dash of “bullet hell” and a slick future retro aesthetic to deliver a fresh take on HSW’s classic. Can you defeat the Qotile for the highest score!? D.joe Posted September 2, 2022 Report Posted September 2, 2022 The competition is fierce on that leaderboard,I think everyone is going to be in on this one Sabertooth 1
Sabertooth Posted September 3, 2022 Author Report Posted September 3, 2022 95,760 - Modern Controller - No multiplier bonuses selected Score is at 00:21:28 (ish) RickR 1
Sabertooth Posted September 4, 2022 Author Report Posted September 4, 2022 Curious, is anyone using bonus multipliers as a strategy?
Mockduck Posted September 7, 2022 Report Posted September 7, 2022 86, 010 for my first submission RickR and Sabertooth 2
Sabertooth Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 99,760 with a Modern. I was crushed when that final came up and it wasn't 100k+. RickR 1
RickR Posted September 15, 2022 Report Posted September 15, 2022 These Recharged games are all really awesome, but I sure wish they'd include a manual. How does scoring work? Is it worth more to shoot or eat shields? Or Zorlon Cannon them? I'll try more this weekend. Sabertooth 1
Sabertooth Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 They definitely should include a digital manual and scoring guide. At least Yars starts with a tutorial, which is a first for the Recharged series. Someone can correct my if I'm wrong but my understanding is that scores are really about time and health. You will get the same score for clearing each level. But you get a bonus for clearing it faster and not getting hit. These bonuses are applied at the end of play so they're not apparent from level to level. There are also the score modifiers that provide a stackable 2.5% bonus at the end of play. RickR 1

Is that something I need to select? I'll go back and read the first post I guess. Anyway, I love this game. I like how world feels "bigger" than original Yars. You can go around to the backside for example. The only thing I miss is being able to shoot the quotile and get an extra life. Edited September 15, 2022 by RickR Sabertooth 1
Sabertooth Posted September 15, 2022 Author Report Posted September 15, 2022 @RickR- when you click into Arcade Mode you'll see an option for modifiers: Hyper, Hunger and Heavy Cannon. You can select any or all of them for an end of game score boost (2.5% each). RickR 1

Yes, it's a strategic part of Arcade Mode. I am useless with them but if you want to give it a shot, go for it!
