greenween Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 I need a good working 5200 controller! I'm sure I can offer up something for a trade. I have games for most systems as well as 1000's of Magic cards. "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."
RickR Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 I may have one for you in a few weeks. Looking for some and willing to refurbish them. I'm also looking for two 5200 games: Berzerk and Realsports Baseball.
AlamoAtari Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 The controller is the only thing that is scaring me away from the 5200 system
greenween Posted October 11, 2015 Author Report Posted October 11, 2015 I have 2 controllers and have tried repairing both but just can't get them to work right anymore. Hey Rick, I've got Berzerk for you! I'll PM you! "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."
greenween Posted October 11, 2015 Author Report Posted October 11, 2015 Don't let that scare you away from it Alamo! It really is a good system. "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."
Sabertooth Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 They are a little pricey but Best Electronics rebuilt 5200 joysticks are pretty dang good and reliable. You can also just buy the pieces and rebuild them yourself. http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/5200.htm
The Professor Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 The controller is the only thing that is scaring me away from the 5200 system It's the sparks flying from the RF adapter box that should scare you.
AlamoAtari Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 I heard the second type with the two controller ports is the better option from what I've seen.
RickR Posted October 11, 2015 Report Posted October 11, 2015 I heard the second type with the two controller ports is the better option from what I've seen. I agree with this. 4 port is painful to hook up with that crazy switchbox it has. 2 port can use the same screw-in RF adapter we use for most of our other old systems.
Sabertooth Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 In addition to being easier to hook up, you can use the VCS adapter with all 2-port models. Only the rare "asterisk" 4-port models will work with the adapter. You do lose compatibility with Pitfall! and Mountain King with the 2-port unless you swap out the BIOS chip. Speaking of Mountain King...
DeLorean Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 This Atari Video System X is compatible with Excitebike. You don't even have to change the BIOS.
LeeJ07 Posted October 12, 2015 Report Posted October 12, 2015 Gary Busey approves. "I'd buy that for a dollar!" -Smash T.V.
greenween Posted October 17, 2015 Author Report Posted October 17, 2015 I have the big boy 4 port. It's quite the beast. Once I hook it up it tends to stay hooked up for awhile! "Better to be king for a night than schmuck for a lifetime."
Atari 5200 Guy Posted January 5, 2016 Report Posted January 5, 2016 You know, I must be the only Atari person that has not had issues with the 5200 4-port sparking when being connected to the switchbox. Then again I did follow the instructions saying to plug the AC Adapter into the wall last. Then again I am probably only one of a handful of kids at the time that actually enjoyed the reading material as much as the system and games themselves.
correagonzalez Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 I purchased the 2 port just didnt wanna deal with that rf switch
