Roland uses the Atari Touch Tablet technology?

So I was checking out some old synth info and ran across a DT-100 pad from Roland that was used with their synths to draw waveforms? It looks strikingly familiar, does it not? Even used a 9-pin connector! Wonder what the story is behind this, all I could really come up with are pictures.
