Unanswered Questions:

  • What were they attempting to do at Hawkins National Laboratory by sending Shepard through the portal?
  • Does the portal take you to the other dimension?
  • What is the other dimension?
  • Is the nature of the other dimension alien, supernatural, or something else?
  • Why fake Will Byers' death?
  • Why are we beginning to see a grid motif appearing in Stranger Things? Grids are everywhere. Does this hint at deeper themes?

I also found this interesting. Shepard walks into the portal and they cut right to this. It's a reference to Joseph Conrad's poem Heart of Darkness, which has as one of it's better known lines “The belief in a supernatural source of evil is not necessary; men alone are quite capable of every wickedness.”

The breakdown of the '80s stuff in "Stranger Things" that our friends Vic Sage and The Retroist are doing keeps rolling on. Today is Stranger Things "Chapter Four: The Body" where they cite at least 18 1980s references in the episode:
