And so it begins... the collection purge. Before I take the games to Pink Gorilla, I offered up my PS1, PS2, PS4, and Dreamcast games to a gamer couple in the local gaming group. This is what I've pulled out for them. I ended selling a couple of games (like Metal Gear Solid and Parasite Eve II) that I was intending to keep, but I am happy that they are going to people I know who will love them as much as I did.

For me personally, it is a long story, but I'll summarize as follows: My wife and I have a big house in which we raised children that are all grown and flown. We would like to move to a smaller home sometime in the near future. Single story, one we can stay in for a long time. That means downsizing our stuff across the board.

Combination of a couple of things are prompting me to reduce my games collection. My starting point is nearly 5,000 physical games across multiple consoles and handhelds.
First, I started my game collecting knowing that I would have to downsize later. The "later" came a few years earlier than I anticipated 🙂 Like Rick, the collection downsizing is driven by moving to a smaller home later. Now we aren't yet selling the house anytime soon, but I do need to raise some capital to fund college tuition and vacation. I volunteered to my wife that I would reduce my game collection to raise some funds.
Second, during the past year, I learned that what I loved most is all things Atari and the games and systems from the 80s. That realization has helped me to make the decision to reduce the collection of games for systems from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo. Don't get me wrong. I love all the games for the PlayStations and Xboxes, but in order to raise funds, reduce the clutter, and make room for other stuff in the house, it was best that I reduce my collection. I'm starting with the PlayStation games because they are the most valuable part of my collection. In the coming months, I will need to figure out what to do with the Xbox games.
The flip side is that I will focus my collection on Atari consoles and computers and a little bit on other systems from the 80s, most notably the Amiga which I bought from Rick last year. With shelf space freed up, I can better display my Vectrex, 5200, 7800, and Jaguar games.

I dropped off the games this afternoon, and received a little belated Christmas gift from the ladies who bought the games.
I have been thinking about buying an Evercade EXP, and today, I was gifted a dust cover for the handheld. I might really need to buy the handheld for my lonely dust cover 😂 I have such a weakness for handheld gaming. The metal Atari sign is cool. She also gave me the AD&D Intellivision cartridge and a 2600 cleaner.
