VectorGamer
Played the latest build of this tonight. It's good but I'm not going gaga over it. If I would stack this up against D Scott Williamson's Star Castle I would say it's neither better or worse. ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683

VectorGamer
I take that back: I just played D Scott Williamson's Star Castle and Star Castle Arcade back to back and I believe Star Castle Arcade is the better game visually and better controls. However I believe the Cinematronics arcade game is superior in all aspects and most importantly with regard to controls. I don't believe either version released for the 2600 controls are spot on in particular when bouncing off the rings. ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683
Arenafoot
Which ROM are you using? Post a link if you can please. the last updated ROM that was released was back in Aug 2013....... I'm guessing they have an updated version that will be sold later this year. VectorGamer
I had the ROM PM'd to me. It's listed as ver 152. I was told it was uploaded to source forge in a blog. I would say search there. It's an OK game but I won't be buying it. The Vectrex version is the best home translation I've played but I'll never play that again unless it's to raise money for charity. I can get my Star Castle fix playing it in MAME using arcade controls. Star Castle is my game and I'm one of the best players on this rock across all platforms. I'm extra particular when it comes to translating this game to home platforms so keep that in mind cuz I don't want to deter people from buying what is otherwise a good game. I just don't have a need for it. Hope that makes sense. ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683

RickR
OK, I tried them both too. While I can truly appreciate the technical skill required to make these games, I found them both to be pretty darned difficult. The controls make it hard to float and then fire in a different direction. Or turn around quickly to flee. The story goes that HSW was attempting to make Star Castle and came up with Yars' Revenge instead. You can really see the similarities. And he was really on to something, as Yar's on the 2600 is a lot more fun than either of these. I'll try them again for sure. Just to give them a fair shake. RickR
And I can totally see how the starplex controller suggested by VectorGamer would make the controls much easier. Playing with a joystick just isn't precise enough.

VectorGamer
I don't know if the developer wanted his bin posted everywhere which is why I haven't uploaded it. If you don't have a Starplex controller definitely get one. The first time you play Asteroids with it's just at a whole different level. It's like playing the game the way it was meant to be played. ⚠️ THIS MEMBER HAS BEEN BANNED FOR THE FOLLOWING INCIDENT: http://forums.atari.io/index.php/topic/475-theretrocade/?p=7683
