Sabertooth reacted to Justin in How many AV switches are in your original hardware setup? I have three: 5-in/2-out S-
On my 1998 CRT Sony Trinitron I have one coaxial input and one Stereo RCA AV input, which I have connected to an external switch box that accepts 4 additional Stereo RCA inputs.
On my Sony HDTV I have 4 HDMI inputs, one component input, 5 RCA AV inputs, two coaxial inputs, and one optical audio input. It still doesn't like my Atari 2600.

It ain't nothing like the old "Wednesday Night Chat" days. 🍕

It's been Discord for me, though I'm fortunate to have had more positive experiences on that app (largely because the Discord I've joined are all video-game related as well as moderated).

Sabertooth reacted to RickR in I'm working on converting old family 8mm film movies to a distal format. It is slow g
If you guys need any advice converting your analog videos into digital, let me know. I've done that before too. There are many ways to do it, but I found the easiest for me was to feed the 8mm or VHS output to a MiniDV camcorder. Record onto MiniDV tape, and then transfer from MiniDV to a computer over firewire. The quality doing it this way is excellent, but it is time consuming.
What's cool is that once you get it onto a computer, it's easy enough to edit, chop it up how you like, or add music and star wipes.

So awesome Rick! Great idea that I am sure will give you great satisfaction on completing. And Justin, man I envy that you recorded all that awesome nostalgic stuff back in the day. I did have several hours of VHS I recorded back in the day as an older teen and young adult mostly, I was into video stuff and did the best with what I had at the time but without any foresight most of it is either stupid, embarrassing or downright drunk nonsense 😜it’s pretty sad quality but who knows, I might share specific bits, like the Beastie Boys Fight for your right to party video we lip synced and made a video for, you won’t believe how skinny I was or the literal Afro head of hair I had, I have tried to laugh at myself more these days after all 🤷😆

Rick, I've been thinking of doing the same thing, except with 8mm home video cassettes. I have so many home movies from the late 80s and early 90s that I would like to preserve, some of which is Atari related and would be fun to share here.

@RickR Yes, let's hope! Atari has been doing a good job of listening to and respecting the hopes and dreams of their fans, and in my view when they make a sincere, authentic effort to do that they've earned our dollars. I hope they continue to do well!

I guess one good thing that came from the erroneous/incomplete news is that a lot of people bought a VCS during the holidays, thinking either it would be their last chance or would be a collector item. Couple that with the awesome holiday sale on software, and I sure hope Atari got some great financial results during December.

Atari's recent financial reports indicated the cancelation of existing manufacturing contracts for the VCS hardware. The same reports also talk about a pivot in strategies and additional hardware through licensing to grow the VCS ecosystem. Some outlets reported on the first part without reporting on the second.
Atari issued a clarification that only Game Spot seemed interested in reporting. Their statement underscored their commitment to supporting the platform. Obviously, that doesn't jive with the narrative Pat & Ian (and other YT folks) want to spin. It's easier to keep at the whole "zombie Atari" thing.
Atari have something like 13 games in the pipeline for VCS in 2023. There are at least that many indie games slated coming to the platform this year. So 25-30 new games expected this year. We'll see what happens beyond that.
Bottom line: the VCS isn't done yet. Folks that want it to succeed should support it.

This is good to hear @Sabertooth. Feel free to pin this as a topic in Club VCS if you'd like. This land of hyped false narratives is exactly why I don't dive too deeply into this stuff outside of trusted sources who we know through Atari I/O or similar.

Yeah, I watched the last episode earlier. They ended with their usual misinformation about the VCS. Still, I've enjoyed their half-baked takes over the years and have even seen them in person at a con. I've said it before and I'll say it again, they are the Statler and Waldorf of gaming. Cranky, entertaining, sometimes poignant.

That's a dang good run. It can't be easy to keep it going for that long.
