For this challenge we're playing one of the greatest launch titles for the Sega Genesis, Space Harrier II! Space Harrier II was a launch title for the Sega Genesis, and was extremely impressive at the time. It remains very fun to play today, and was a direct sequel to the original 1985 Space Harrier arcade game which had also been released on the Sega Master System. Like with the original Space Harrier, Space Harrier II was also designed by the legendary Yu Suzuki. Space Harrier was one of Sega's famous super-scaler games that used scaled 2D sprites to approximate 3D graphics, and despite the Genesis's comparatively weak processing power, Space Harrier II did a solid job at recreating the look and feel of the iconic coin-op shooter. The controls are tight and the gameplay feels faithful. Your hero nimbly zips across the screen ready to blast everything to kingdom come, and the speed with which the game moves creates some intense moments - it can be thoroughly exciting to weave through the rows of pillars and trees that regularly get in your way. You can choose to play the stages in any order you like, but all twelve of the main stages have to be finished before you can head into the final boss-rush area. Once every few stages you'll also get to play a bonus round in which your hero takes to a hoverboard to blast stuff for points and 1-Ups, and not being able to die in these segments makes for a nice diversion from the main game. Space Harrier II shows a few of the Sega Genesis quirks, as you are limited to just four shots on-screen at any time. The fix here is simple - don't miss when you shoot - but that can be difficult! Another quirk is the frame rate, which is not ideal. Space Harrier II was an absolute blast to play when it was first released, and was a real showcase for the power of the new 16-bit Sega Genesis. 9. Here are some real Pro-Tips for scoring big in MAGICAL CHASE: Lock Options (Star Maidens) in Place To lock options (Star Maidens) in place, tap Button I when NOT holding down Button II to fire. The Star Maidens will remain locked in the position you chose. To release the Star Maidens, tap Button I once again. Lock Firing Direction To lock the Firing Direction, tap Button I while holding down Button II to fire. The Firing Direction of the Star Maidens will lock in place. Use Spells To use spells, double press Button II quickly. This will use the Spell shown closest to the left. Start with 60,000 Crystals! At the "Difficulty" setup screen, press LEFT, DOWN, RIGHT, UP, SELECT three times, LEFT, RIGHT and BUTTON I. If you do this correctly, you will hear a chime and start the game with over 60,000 gems!

For this challenge we're playing one of the greatest shooters in the American TurboGrafx-16 library: Magical Chase! Yes, Magical Chase is legendary for being notoriously expensive to collect, but it's also one of the most graphically impressive shooters on the system, and it's also really, really fun to play! In my opinion this game is as fun, if not more fun to play than Air Zonk. You play as Ripple, a little witch shooting at very unique characters she accidentally released into the world. Magical Chase came as a standard TurboChip (HuCard) playable across all American TurboGrafx systems, including the TurboGrafx-16 base system, the TurboExpress handheld, and the TurboDuo. The graphics are visually beautiful and sound is very impressive for the TurboGrafx-16, Magical Chase with its impressive graphics and world of memorable characters feels like it would be more at home on the Super Nintendo. Unfortunately I was unable to procure a PDF of the instruction manual for this game, if you come across one would you be so kind as to share it here with the group? ROM is provided below. We are playing the American version of Magical Chase as it differs from the Japanese release on the PC Engine. I hope you all have fun, and good luck to everybody participating!! 15. I managed to get a game in the other day but I wasn't able to post it. I'm sharing my score now with you, after the deadline, just to show that I participated and played along with you guys. I came in dead last, but I will put an asterisk after my name in the Final Standings and my score won't count. I wish I had more time to play Pitfall, and on real hardware, it would've been fun. I'll be able to participate more in our next Squad Challenge 😀 My High Score was 9,721

For this challenge we're playing one of the greatest Atari 2600 games of all time - Pitfall! Pitfall was designed by the legendary David Crane at Activision in 1982. Can you navigate Pitfall Harry through the rolling logs, across the crocodiles, and jumping from vine to vine? Apologies to all for the delay in posting this Squad Challenge, I have evacuated my home during Hurricane Ian and even here have been without power, internet, cable, and cell phone reception until recently. We of course are prepared for Hurricane season to come every year, but cannot control the extent to which we are without power or have to evacuate. Otherwise everything is fine with me and we will continue on! ROM and Instruction Manual are provided below. I hope you all have fun, and good luck to everybody participating!! 19. Congratulations Greenween! Congratulations to our "Mayor" @greenween for becoming our Arcade Burgertime Squad Champion! Greenween came back in force to take the top spot in our Final Standings with the saltiest score of 30,950 points. Way to go Greenween! Two other Atari I/O OGs joined us for this Squad Challenge, @Atari 5200 Guy claims 2nd Place on the board with an impressive 18,000 points, and @RickR puts the pepper on top, right on Atari 5200 taking the 3rd spot in our Final Standings with his score of 17,400 points. As always I'd like to encourage @greenween to post his high score on the Scoreboard, and let's make sure this Challenge continues on! Apologies for my lack of participation as I've been evacuated with Hurricane Ian. On any MAME Squad Challenge, any original or authentic ROM is acceptable. That usually includes Evercade releases, many "Collection" releases, and of course MAME and the original Arcade hardware. A good rule of thumb to ask yourself "Is this game close enough to the original ROM to play without antagonizing the rest of the community and making myself look like a cheater?" Remember, we're all just playing for fun and to have a good time playing these games with each other, so as long as it's the original ROM or indistinguishable from the original ROM you would be in good shape. Submitting a score for NES or Intellivision Burgertime wouldn't cut it. Congratulations again to our "Mayor" Greenween for another BIG WIN, and a huge congratulations to our wonderful community for being such a great group to spend time with, I hope everybody had fun playing in our latest NES Squad Challenge!
