DegasElite reacted to Justin in How many AV switches are in your original hardware setup? I have three: 5-in/2-out S-
On my 1998 CRT Sony Trinitron I have one coaxial input and one Stereo RCA AV input, which I have connected to an external switch box that accepts 4 additional Stereo RCA inputs.
On my Sony HDTV I have 4 HDMI inputs, one component input, 5 RCA AV inputs, two coaxial inputs, and one optical audio input. It still doesn't like my Atari 2600.

How much did your film scanner cost you? I wouldn't mind doing something like that myself. Someday, anyway.

The movie/film scanners aren't cheap.  New, they are about $300.  Used, well $200 is the most you should pay IMO.  This one was less, but had missing parts.
Most of the conversion companies charge by the foot of film.  That makes it hard to estimate.  Plus shipping film back and forth both ways.

If you guys need any advice converting your analog videos into digital, let me know. I've done that before too.  There are many ways to do it, but I found the easiest for me was to feed the 8mm or VHS output to a MiniDV camcorder.  Record onto MiniDV tape, and then transfer from MiniDV to a computer over firewire.  The quality doing it this way is excellent, but it is time consuming.
What's cool is that once you get it onto a computer, it's easy enough to edit, chop it up how you like, or add music and star wipes.

So awesome Rick! Great idea that I am sure will give you great satisfaction on completing. And Justin, man I envy that you recorded all that awesome nostalgic stuff back in the day. I did have several hours of VHS I recorded back in the day as an older teen and young adult mostly, I was into video stuff and did the best with what I had at the time but without any foresight most of it is either stupid, embarrassing or downright drunk nonsense 😜it’s pretty sad quality but who knows, I might share specific bits, like the Beastie Boys Fight for your right to party video we lip synced and made a video for, you won’t believe how skinny I was or the literal Afro head of hair I had, I have tried to laugh at myself more these days after all 🤷😆

Rick, I've been thinking of doing the same thing, except with 8mm home video cassettes. I have so many home movies from the late 80s and early 90s that I would like to preserve, some of which is Atari related and would be fun to share here.

I like it fine so far for the couple hours I've tinkered. Interestingly there are "paid" options, obviously I am not using that. Paid gives you things like more customization options and themes etc. As is though there is enough to set it to look like typical Linux or more Windows or more Mac like depending what one is use to so that is nice. Placement of start, menus, app display to mimic those other Operating systems. Normal Linux storefront to download more software for free from the Linux repositories.
I will likely keep it on for some time, cannot say I like as much or better than PopOS! (that would be surprising) but I tend to keep it on for a while and use over time, it's like a third machine after my main PC and desktop so I don't spend much time with it in the grand scheme of things.
Here you can see a quick video with a nice visual tour of what to expect in the latest core edition (what I have installed)

Now this one is slightly older but longer and descriptive, I watch this guy for Linux content. Worth the watch imho.
