    Orange is the new black.

I initially thought GTA 4 would be too violent for my taste...but the story kind of sucks you in.  It feels like our hero is "reluctantly" violent.  That gives it depth that I wasn't expecting.

PSN account is free and needed if you want to buy stuff from the store. PS Plus is what you need for online gaming, and that's a paid subscription.
GTA is a highly regarded series. I haven't played any of the GTA games.

Thank you guys for the tips.  I am clueless.  I appreciate it very much.

After formatting the system and wiping out all old data, I went ahead and created a new account "Dad", but didn't create a PSN account.  I'm not sure what benefit that would bring.  I don't plan on doing on-line gaming yet.  Is that all it's good for?

I also loaded/installed all the games I have and boy, it takes a while for some of them to install updates and such.  Black Flag took the longest.  Probably an hour or so!

And the game I'm focusing on at the moment is GTA 4.  It got a 10/10 from various review sites.  I'm enjoying it immensely so far.

I'm going to see son #1 in Dec and he has the Uncharted series.  I'll borrow them from him.  I will also call it "Unsharted" and the protagonist Dr. Drake Remoray.  Dad jokes must be made.

I have the same PS3 Slim 160GB. I don't game too much on it so storage hasn't been an issue. I believe you can attach an external drive to it, so expanding storage is simple enough if the need arises.
The PS3 library has a lot of games collections. Those can be fun to collect and play. This wiki lists all the games remastered for the PS3 and game collections. I believe they're mostly remastered PS2 games. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-definition_remasters_for_PlayStation_consoles
And don't forget to pick up the Uncharted series!
Edit: One other thing... in case you didn't realize.. the OEM controller is Bluetooth. You only need to use the USB cable to pair it with the console or to charge the controller using the console (console has to be powered on for it to charge the controller -- it's stupid but that's the way it is).

I have Black Flag on PC and 360.  I had to stop using the 360 version because during an autosave the game locked up and has kept my Live account from playing the game again and I've never figured out how to fix it.  GTA IV is not bad either but the constant haze in the game is a bit annoying to me.  It doesn't look as clear as those before or after it.
Those slim models are nice units.  If your HDMI plug is poor (about to fall off) then that poor thing has had a rough life.  Those can be soldered back in place but I lack the tools to do it or I would offer my assistance.
Yes.  The AV port on the PS3 is the same one Sony has used on later model PS1 and all PS2 units.  The only issue is with a standard AV you won't get the quality picture you are getting at 1080i.  1080i is not a big deal. It's just interlaced instead of progressive.
160 GB HDD is not bad.  That should be enough for the game saves and anything else you throw at it.  I had one of the original models for a few months.  Replaced the hard drive with a larger one (80 GB wasn't enough).  Sold it pay off a bill I thought was due when it wasn't.  I miss that thing.  At least Sony has kept the PS3 store open.
If you ever feel "brave" and if they are still there, Sony held a show series called Testers that the PS3 could download and play.  They were a competition between gamers where the winner got a job at Sony being a game tester.  Interesting show.  As far as I know it was only available on the PS3.  I know of 2 seasons of the show...I don't if there were any more than that.

That's the only gaming console I have left to get. I miss having one and I do have games for PS3.  Really nice pickup!

It was tasty. I didn't think the sour cream based sauce would be good for my diet, so I only took a couple of bites... small bites 😄 Wife and kids liked it.

Yep.  I think he's in a total of 3 different TZ episodes, and Shatner is in 2.

😮 it is Burgess Meredith. I thought he looked very familiar. Yes, he's an awesome actor.
I need to restart my TZ watching. I started watching them last year after Phil ran podcasts about Twilight Zone episodes.

I already have solar panels, but I'd have to rewire them a bit (remove them from the grid)!

Anytime you see a Burgess Meredith Twilight Zone, you're in for a treat.  He's one of the actors that really understood the format and made magic.  Bill Shatner was another.

So, you planning to mount solar panels on your roof? 😄
I actually watched this episode. I don't know how the actor managed his role and not bump into stuff with those coke bottle glasses.

My wife and I drove to the beach just for the day yesterday.  Our goal was to relax and avoid people as much as possible, and we succeeded.  We packed a picnic lunch, found a nice picnic table by the beach and had a wonderful time.  We went to a more secluded location where we knew there wouldn't be crowds.  Interestingly, we drove by the most popular beach in Oregon and it was very crowded.
Today's plan is to be at home and try to stay out of any drama or trouble of any kind.  Relaxing is important!
