  1. Thanks, TrekMD! BTW, anybody reading this...if you wouldn't mind filling this out for me, I want to get some more insight for when I get this thing off the ground... https://docs.google.com/forms/d/14HUSMT6wToj48E_y2IFKTLL634ndCmA8mbeOkW_9_wo
  2. I've been curious as to how this episode would go over. It's a bit on the unusual side. Still the same format - preamble, Addena and Errata, one game, another game, theme reveal, thanks to the sponsors, announcing the next episode's games, closing credits, and (if applicable) bloopers/outtakes. But the content itself is a bit unusual. Out of the blue I already got some insightful feedback but I'd like as much as possible.
  3. Question: What did Sean get wrong *this time*? Answer: it’s probably somewhere in this episode. So is a missing sequined glove (probably). Anyway, just listen to episode 70. Because that’s what it certainly is: an episode. http://fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_Episode070.mp3
  4. BTW, when I discussed Scammer Brawler, I inadvertently mentioned something in a not-so-serious tone that probably should have been serious. I totally didn't realize it until after I posted the episode. I'm sorry and embarrassed; I'll address it in more detail in the next episode.
  5. Must be New Turntable Season. My wife and I bought an Audio-Technica LP120 after Thanksgiving. As far as I'm concerned, it has the works: 3 speeds (missing 16rpm, but I've never, EVER seen a 16rpm record in my life! I know they were typically spoken-word recordings, but I've never seen one), stroboscopic light, forward and reverse, USB out, direct drive, priced at $300. And what killed me: the vinyl nerds think of it as a BUDGET ENTRY LEVEL TURNTABLE. Uhhhh......$300 is budget?!?! Good God...what would they think about those $80 and $130 turntables that were in the store!?! With two speeds, no strobe, etc. ! Ended up taking it back and swapping it for another of the same model because there was excessive flutter and wow. My wife couldn't tell, but my anal retentive ears sure could hear! Anyway...I do love me that turntable!
  6. After unpopular demand, the long-awaited episode 30 is out! In this belated episode, we take out our frustrations on useless megastars, questionable AtariAge users, and rocket hijackers. Happy Mardi Gras! http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_030.mp3
  7. Another update bump
  8. Hey, all...I'm already planning out, scripting out, and already even started recording segments for my next podcast. It's not going to be a video game podcast (so I won't be polluting this forum every time a new episode is released ), but I will undoubtedly have periodic segments about video games. Here's the story: some of you know I co-host Pie Factory Podcast with my longtime friend Jim. That podcast was his idea; it's his baby. I was actually already planning to do a completely different podcast, putting ideas together and stuff, specifically a Beach Boys related-podcast because there weren't any at the time. But while I was floating ideas in my mind, Jim asked me to do PFP with him, so I accepted, putting my original idea on hold. Well...recently, a (really well done) Beach Boys podcast launched and is doing pretty much the stuff I had in mind. But anyway, as some of you know, I also host my own podcast, The Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast. And I was thinking about what to do when it either ends or has to come to a halt. (And it will have to come to a halt in the next few months, simply because I'm running out of games to cover, and there are several WIPs that probably won't be finished any time soon!) So I thought of this: I have a lot of interests -- especially music and classic video games. And years ago I wondered aloud why, when you go to a bookstore or library, you'll see plenty of biographies and autobiographies of people who are famous or did hugely important things that affected millions: pro athletes, politicians, movie stars, inventors, etc. But you never see such thing for just...an average, everyday, nobody like myself. HEY, maybe I should write that! I'll write an autobiography...I'm nobody important to the world: I'm just an average, 9-5, non-rich, non-poor, white guy in middle America. Let me tell my boring story! And the thing is...whenever I decide to sit down and write something, it never comes to full fruition, mainly because my other interests take over...music, gaming, coding (I'm a web site developer for a living and I also like to do some programming in my spare time), traveling with my wife (we're not rich, but we do make sure we take a trip whenever our schedules and fundage allow), podcasting, stuff like that... Wait...waitaminit...podcasting??? Yeah, I like podcasting. Really like it. I feel kind of incomplete if I don't spend at least a few minutes a day behind a microphone. So...why not combine that with my autobio-of-a-nobody idea? Yeah!!! So...my podcast will be called Autobiography of a Schnook, which is what I was going to call my original (written) idea. Every episode I'll talk about some aspect of my life - stories, anecdotes, advice I've received and given, etc. And every episode will end on a segment about music -- quite often the Beatles or Beach Boys, or maybe even play some music that I've written... If you've heard either of my current podcasts, you might have noticed I kind of inflect in certain ways, try to be as conversational as possible (I read from a script, which I know a lot of people have a hard time with), etc. But for Schnook I'm going to make it a bit more "as read by the author" kind of thing. But anyway...that's what I'm going to do. If people like it, great. If people don't, that's fine, but it's something I want to do. I don't know if I'm going to adhere rigidly to a schedule -- of course I'll try my standard of every-two-weeks -- but I don't want to go too long between episodes. (I love No Quarter, for instance, but I don't like that there are months between episodes...) What advice would y'all have for me in this endeavor???
  9. Hey, all...sorry to be so late with this request, but...if you have any thoughts on AtariAge user frankodragon's Hollywood Brawler and/or Scammer Brawler, let's hear 'em! I totally forgot to post about that...but...the episode of The Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast that will be talking about that game...is scheduled for, oh...four days from now! Deadline? Heh. I'll take it when I can get it! If not in time for the episode, I can still address it later. My podcast, my rules. Nyaa! Either comment on this thread or e-mail homebrew78 -at- fab4it -dot- com. Text or audio! Here's the discussion thread. ROM for Hollywood Brawler (but not Scammer Brawler, which I don't think Clark released -- you can only get that in cartridge form, IINM) is in the thread too: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/255796-hollywood-brawlerscammer-brawler/?do=findComment&comment=3569874
  10. A (thankfully?) short episode this time! Don't like reading in the bathroom? Well, now with episode 29 you can use your Atari 7800 to separate the reading from the bathroom! (And yes, I know: New Mexico, not Texas. I was sick when I recorded that.) http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_029.mp3
  11. Spotted in the recycling bin outside of my apartment building.
  12. What? You thought Sean and Jim would let January end without you getting another episode in your podcast player?! Pshaw! Here with the long-awaited episode 69 are your beloved hosts waxing philosophical about two early '80s space games. We're sure to sell a million units...in January. http://www.fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_Episode069.mp3
  13. I had the Amiga version of Llamatron. Quite excellent, I must say.
  14. Hi, everyone; me again! I'm looking for feedback for future episodes of the Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast (you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or use this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/homebrew78). Episode 29 will be covering frankodragon's Roof Pooper and gambler172's E.T. Book Cart 7800. What are your thoughts on these titles? For your feedback to be included and addressed in the episode, please have it to me by 11:59pm Central time on Wednesday, January 24. (Anything after then will be addressed in a later episode.) Episode 30 will be covering PacManPlus's FailSafe. Wednesday, February 7 will be the cut-off for then. (11:59pm Central again) Also, it's looking like I'm going to have to do that Pac-Man Collection! episode in the near future, so if you have something you want to contribute and haven't done so already, comment here or on this thread. If you wish to submit audio, please e-mail it to homebrew78 @ fab4it . com save2600 asked that I include links to help out, which I think is a great idea. 15. Ha! You and I disagree on the Rock & Rye! flavor. So...what exactly does the "rye" part refer to???
  16. Everybody's fourth-favorite midwestern video game podcast hosts have returned from their monthlong tour of Europe, Scandinavia, and the subcontinent with deep thoughts about Battlezone and Juno First. Shirley this episode will go down in history as "The Show Notes Episode." http://www.fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_Episode068.mp3
  17. Thanks for the tips, guys...I wasn't aware you could refi through Navient -- that might be the best option! Before I do anything I'm going to get rid of the smallest of my loans; I have just under $500 left to go on that, and if my wife and I are wise with our money, I could get that wiped out within a month. Big reason I'm really concerned about this is that my wife wants to get a new car...our 2007 Saturn Vue is still in excellent working condition but it's time to get a new vehicle, and I remember I was paying $408 a month on the Vue, and logic tells me I'll be lucky to get a lower monthly payment this time around. (But at the same time, my wife was unemployed for the first eight months we had that car, and my job(s) didn't pay a lot; now we're both gainfully employed and I'm making a LOT more money now...no means rich at all, but still...)
  18. (I thought for a change I should post something other than link to one of my podcasts!) Here's the sitch..I currently owe about $28,000 in change in student loans for the two, maybe two and a half years I was in grad school. Part time, Usually one class at a time, a couple of times two. (And I literally went with the cheapest option.) Right now I'm on a ten-year graduated repayment plan, meaning that every couple of years my repayment amount goes up. This year was one of those years...I'm starting to really feel the pain of the monthly payments now (and if I stay on this plan, I'll be paying $600-$700 a month in the last two years; right now I'm a bit over $300). I think I'm currently on year 4 of the plan. I have the option to switch to the non-graduated plan at any time. The pros are that the monthly payments would be much lower, but the cons are 1) it's a 20-year plan (and I'm 43 right now!), and 2) I'd end up paying a lot more in the end (and yes, I know I can pay more than the monthly to cut it down a bit). Since I really don't relish the thought of paying a loan that covered two years of part-time school when I'm in my 60s (really, this is an effed-up education system we have in this country), I sometimes think of refinancing all together. For one thing, it'd be a way to consolidate my debt -- I currently have four loans going right now (with one almost paid in full). Also, I can probably get a lower interest rate. The one thing with refinancing, though, is that I'd have to do it through a bank; using a student loan "service" such as Navient or Sallie Mae actually gives you a bit of leeway in the case of financial hardship (like if I lose my job I can stop paying on the loan, albeit while still accumulating interest), but a bank loan doesn't have that luxury. Just wanted to see if any of you refinanced a student loan, and if so, how easy was it? Glad you did it? Better interest rate? (I'm paying 6.55% on my current loans.) BTW, loan forgiveness is NOT an option -- I didn't finish the degree (if I stayed in school long enough to finish, I literally would be homeless with the monthly repayments), and I've yet to find any kind of loan forgiveness programs that will talk to you if you didn't finish!
  19. 2018 can now start: episode 28 has been unearthed! Today Sean takes on Bob DeCrescenzo's port of a Gremlin/Sega oldie in his Chicago non-basement (but alas found no Hulks). Ruthann the Beagle insisted on helping with the intro segment. http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_028.mp3
  20. Updated want list bump
  21. I have the RiffTrax version.
  22. I went to the HoF this past summer. Holy cripes....Pinball Circus!! That thing is a monster! I heard someone offered the owner $150,000 for that thing...and was turned down. But answering the OP...among my favorites (although I'm not a huge pinball fan): Pinball Circus, Haunted House (Ferg wasn't kidding -- it is REALLY COOL!), Police Force (I played that a lot when I was in college; at one point I had getting the bonus points and extra games with that ramp down to a science!), and the new Batman machine.
  23. Those of you who were around in the late '70s and early '80s and had a station owned by Kaiser Broadcasting, you might remember this.....there was a little series called Snipets, whose episodes (very short - just a couple of minutes long) would air during weekday afternoon cartoons. Channel 32 in Chicago was my local Kaiser station....and I remember those things. The one they showed all the freaking time was about how to take a coffee can and rig it so that when you roll it on the floor, it comes to a stop and then starts rolling back to you. They called it the "Come Back Here!" Thing is....as ubiquitous as that film was back then, it was impossible to find for years! Well...someone just found it on an old video tape purchased, I think, at an estate sale. It's on this site: http://fuzzymemories.tv/#videoclip-4945
  24. It makes me feel bad. I'm not a huge Star Wars buff. I watched the holiday special for the first time a couple of weeks ago and live-commented on it on Facebook. When Luke made his first appearance, the way his face looked was beyond odd. I commented something like, "This was filmed five minutes after Mark Hamill first discovered cocaine!" Then I listened to the SWHS episode of Holiday Special Podcast, and that's how I learned about the accident and that as a result he was in heavy makeup.
