  1. You can get the ROM from here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/257095-chicago-basement-the-game/ I'll forewarn you: it's based on an inside joke.
  2. It saddens me to not see Toyshop Trouble for the 2600 mentioned! Great fun and intensely addicting.
  3. I'm looking for feedback a future episode of the Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast (you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or use this feed: http://feeds.feedbur...com/homebrew78) What are your thoughts on Astro Fighter? This game will be covered on Episode 28. Deadline is 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, January 10. Sorry for the limited time...holiday weirdness as you'd expect. Aaaand...while I'm at it...I think I'll also cover Chicago Basement. Same episode! Share your thoughts! You can also e-mail text or audio to homebrew78 -at- fab4it -dot- com. Comments are welcome any time, including after the deadlines; any feedback from after the deadlines will simply be addressed during a later episode.
  4. I've seen episodes 4 through 8. Never was a huge *fan* of Star Wars -- when I saw the original trilogy, it was...because it was what you did. It was the late '70s/early '80s: you go to see Star Wars. Having said that though, I absolutely looooooooved me The Last Jedi. Wow. Went to see it with my wife and mother-in-law. All three of us were just stunned. My wife and I rarely go to the cinema....we average about one movie every two years (and that's being generous)...all I'll say is, if she wants to go out and see this movie again, I'm so there. Nothing more to say.
  5. I was going to post this in the contests forum, but it seems that I don't have posting access there....but... At Pie Factory Podcast we are running a contest. It's specifically for our Patreon supporters. (We realized we haven't really given our supporters a thank-you gift, so this could be a start.) The prize: a Sears Telegames Video Arcade 2600 light-sixer. It's cleaned up and AV-modded (in such a way that you can re-solder it back to its original condition if you want) and comes with not only a handful of complete-in-box games (including some Telegames-branded carts), but also the original outer box that contained the Sixer. What you have to do: 1) Be a Patreon supporter of Pie Factory Podcast (or if you're not, then become one via patreon.com/piefactorypodcast), and 2) Come up with a theme for our next episode, which will cover Battlezone and Juno First. There's no right or wrong answer: be creative! What, in your eyes, do the two games have in common? E-mail your theme suggestion to piefactory@fab4it.com Our original deadline was 11:59pm January 1, 2018 (CST), but we will likely extend it.
  6. I worked in radio at a podunk station as a weekend jock for a couple of years in the '90s. My friend and Pie Factory Podcast cohost Jim also worked for the same station, albeit about ten years after I left! We recently recorded a "bonus episode" of the podcast in which we spent the entire time talking about our experiences working in radio, in case anybody's interested. (No Swear Gamer gave us the idea, btw.) The link is in the Pie Factory thread in the Podcasts forum here.
  7. Ahhh, Da Yoopers....personally I prefer "Second Week of Deer Camp," but this is a classic too.
  8. Episode 27, the last for 2017, is now available! Just as the the title of this episode's game does, 2017 will end with a bang as Sean discusses the homebrew title Worm! and the history of "snake" games and...Neil Diamond??? http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_027.mp3
  9. I apologize - Wednesday is NOT December 18! heh. But regardless...my deadline for Worm! is actually going to be THIS FRIDAY, December 22, at NOON Central stranded time. I just realized I don't know if I'll be able to get behind the mic next week, so I'm recording the episode this week.
  10. Help Sean celebrate the season with a very limited release homebrew as he waxes poetic about Christmas. Tap a spoon on your speaker, and maple syrup will be sure to ooze out. http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_026.mp3
  11. Whoa...didn't we release a final episode for 2017? Heh...well, the thing about that is....HERE'S A BONUS EPISODE!! Jim and Sean offer you a holiday gift: an extra episode! The Pie Factory hosts aren't too afraid of...public speaking...to offer one more...broadcast...for 2017. Normally they talk about video games, but this time they get...behind the microphone...another way to talk about a topic pertinent to their past lives. For the...record...this episode's transmission may make your head spin! We hope you stay...stationary...and don't get...carted...away! In fact, we hope you end up walking on...the air! http://fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_BonusEpisode2017.mp3
  12. Hi, everybody! Sorry I'm late (well, this is coming out 14 hours later than I would have liked it to!), but...here's episode 25 - Astro Blaster! Sega/Gremlin (or is it Gremlin/Sega?) gets some love from Sean in this look at another Bob DeCrescenzo classic, a conversion of a fairly obscure arcade game. http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_025.mp3
  13. New Episode! EPISODE 67: BUSTER BROS AND BLASTEROIDS The last episode of 2017 brings you two guys talking about two late ’80s games with two…uhhh…something or other. Ooh…and is there a special something for Patreon supporters? Only time will tell. http://fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_Episode067.mp3
  14. Interestingly, Matt doesn't have it listed on atariprotos.com. But yeah, there's supposedly a prototype and a part number.
  15. I'm looking for feedback for future episodes of the Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast (you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or use this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/homebrew78) What are your thoughts on the following games? Astro Blaster -- will be covered on Episode 25. Deadline is 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, November 29. Santa Simon -- will be covered on Episode 26. Deadline is 11:59pm CST on Wednesday, December 13. Worm! -- will be covered on Episode 27. Deadline is noon CST on Friday, December 22. (I think I mentioned on episode 23 that I'd be covering this for 25 or something....totally forgot until it was too late! Sorry about that...) You can also e-mail text or audio to homebrew78 -at- fab4it -dot- com. Comments are welcome any time, including after the deadlines; any feedback from after the deadlines will simply be addressed during a later episode. Also, try to keep your comments reserved for separate games; I want to avoid catch-all comments that talk about more than one.
  16. Pear Pimples for Hairy Fishnuts?
  17. Episode 24 — Crystal Quest…or Bentley Bear’s Crystal Quest…or Crystal Quest featuring Bentley Bear…or whatever! — is out! In this episode Sean takes an in-depth look at a recently-released, highly-anticipated sequel to Crystal Castles. http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_024.mp3
  18. Episode 66 - Luner Landar and Red Baron - is out! Jim and Sean wax philosophical about two Atari vector graphics games. (And unfortunately, new computer = new audio issues, for which they apologize.) Are Sean and Jim stealing No Quarter's "Novecter" idea? Only time will tell, but listen for details...if any! http://www.fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_Episode066.mp3
  19. I don't have a CV, never did. Most I ever saw of it was as a floor model at Montgomery Ward. Pitfall II -- the checkpoints kind of annoy me...way too far apart...and the neverending music gets on my nerves.
  20. Whoa...it's late Saturday morning and I totally forgot there's a new episode out. (And I'm the host. Seriously!?!?) But the Moon Cresta episode has dropped! An obscure arcade shoot-em-up gets the 7800 homebrew treatment from one of the system's most highly respected developers. http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode_023.mp3
  21. Wow...this is just too hard to come up with 10. I'll mention 10 but they're in no particular order: - Jr. Pac-Man -- IMHO, the best officially-sanctioned arcade port on the 2600! - Yars' Revenge -- because, come on! - Lady Bug -- awesome homebrew. Seriously, play this and then play the arcade version - you'll barely be able to tell the difference. - Pitfall! -- an instant classic. I do NOT like Pitfall 2, though. - River Raid -- another instant classic. - Demon Attack -- one of two games in which I was able to find a kill screen back in the '80s! (The other: The Activision Decathlon) - Space Invaders -- of the versions I've played (2600, 5200, 7800 homebrew, arcade) -- this is easily my favorite. - Communist Mutants From Space -- a semi-hidden gem in the library! So much fun. - Space Rocks -- another amazing homebrew. It takes the things that can make the official 2600 Asteroids boring and makes 'em...uhh...unboring? I guess??? - Video Pinball -- I even like this better than Midnight Magic -- but wow..so much fun and strategy in this one. It's a very frequent go-to when I want to play some 2600 stuff.
  22. I never had a Faygo beverage before I saw Phil's post. I've seen the drinks sporadically around Chicago but never grabbed one. After reading No Swear Gamer's post, I wanted to try a few of 'em, but...sure as heck, when I WANT to drink one, I can't find one anywhere! Even when my wife and I went to New Buffalo, Michigan for Memorial Day weekend, Barney's supermarket didn't have it. BUT...we did go back to New Buffalo this past weekend. Again, no Faygo at Barney's, but the variety store next door had a sale on it....except we weren't around during their business hours; on Friday night we arrived too late, and Saturday we were busy doing other things, BUT...on the way back to Chicago, we stopped at a Meijer's in Michigan City, Indiana, because my wife wanted to buy a butt-ton of Sweat Leaf Tea and not pay the Cook County sweetened beverage tax (which, thankfully, is going away in December). While she was busy emptying the store of Sweet Leaf, I went across the parking lot and filled up at Meijer's gas station...where they were selling Faygo drinks for 89 cents per 24-ounce bottle! I grabbed five different ones. Here are my thoughts (and the exclamation points are not mine - they're Faygo's): Moon Mist - I didn't feel a zing like from Mountain Dew (despite the "With A Real Kick" notation on the label). The flavor is a bit more lemony than Mountain Dew. But this stuff is not Dew. Not even Mello Yello. If you're looking for Mountain Dew flavor, you'll be disappointed, but keep an open mind and expect a completely different drink and it can be enjoyable. So I'm using its unique and enjoyable NON-Dew flavor for my rating. (Using Phil's scale) My rating: solid Creme Soda! - could be better with a bit more sweetness; it's missing a bit of flavor. My rating: meh Cotton Candy - definitely the OPPOSITE of the creme soda: a bit TOO sweet, but in the end, it really does taste like cotton candy! If it had LESS sweetness, it wouldn't taste like cotton candy but more like a creme soda. So....because Faygo pulled off exactly what it advertised: My rating: solid (diet) Vanilla Creme Soda! - actually, pretty good for a diet drink. Bought this accidentally - I saw "Vanilla" and snagged it, mainly to see how it differed from the "Creme Soda" that didn't mention vanilla. If this weren't diet, it would be a great happy medium between Creme Soda and Cotton Candy, in terms of sweetness. My rating: solid Delicious Rock & Rye! - I didn't know the significance of the "rye" part...never heard that used to describe a soda before. Literally until when I opened it I thought it was Faygo's plain ol' cola or something because it looked black/dark brown, but when I took the bottle out of my backpack at work and was about to pour it over ice, I saw it was red. Then I saw on the label in small print that it's a "creme cola." Well, I got excited because I absolutely love me a good red creme soda. But I don't love this stuff. Same problem with the Creme Soda!: a tad under-sweet...in fact, this tasted more diet to me than the (diet) Vanilla Creme Soda!. I've had several other red cremes that were much more enjoyable, including A&W and A-Treat. My rating: meh Overall, I have to say, Faygo doesn't impress me. I still want to try the varieties I haven't tried (especially root beer), but...it seems they kind of miss the mark, which I guess is to be expected given that it's a budget drink. I do appreciate, however, that they correctly designate the "creme soda" as 'creme soda" and not "cream soda." What's the difference? Well, "cream," both by definition and by FDC law, implies that it's made from a dairy product; if it's not dairy, you use the "creme" (or, to be even more correct, "crème") spelling.
  23. I'm looking for feedback a future episode of the Atari 7800 Homebrew Podcast (you can find it on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play, or use this feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/homebrew78) What are your thoughts on Moon Cresta and/or Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest? These games will be covered on Episodes 23 and 24, respectively. Deadline for Moon Cresta will be noon CDT Wednesday, November 1, while the Crystal Quest deadline will be noon CST (see there? I noted the DST change!) on Wednesday, November 15. You can also e-mail text or audio to homebrew78 -at- fab4it -dot- com. Comments are welcome any time, including after the deadlines; any feedback from after the deadlines will simply be addressed during a later episode.
  24. So here's the situation. It's October. It's 2017. By process of elimination, that means it's October 2017. Putting two and two together, you get twotwo. Strategically simulate operations and shoot some suicidal space creatures with Sean and Jim as they answer that musical question: "Huh?" http://fab4it.com/piefactory/audio/PFP_Episode065.mp3
  25. Episode 22 of the podcast is out now, officially, as of about 7:30-ish Central time on Saturday. If the episode showed up for you any earlier and was truncated, please re-download it; something went wonky and for some reason on Friday night about 3 megabytes of it got pushed. (I just hope it was the GOOD 3 megabytes!)
Anyway, in episode 22, ex-cukes become purple, a hard rock singer takes on weight, and we throw in a bit of Hallowe’en…because we can. http://homebrew78.fab4it.com/media/hbh_episode022.mp3
