    hi every one,

i used to collect a lot in the gaming world. but settled strictly on atari by the late 1980's, early 1990's when i figured out room wise, i was going to be in trouble.
so i still love getting something atari related that i do not have.
but one thing that really excites me is when i am able to collect every version of a game that was released on various atari platforms, like dark chamber, it came out on the 2600, 7800, and the XEGS.
i recenetly was posting comparisons between 7800 games and the XEGS, showing the differences in the games. one thing that turned me off about collecting 5200 games was that many of them were simply a port of a 400/800 game. many you could not tell the difference between machines, except the shape of the cartridge.
what i like about collecting games for the different atari platforms is to see how different each released game is compared to the same game on other atari platforms.

    hi rickr,
true, a few were different, but not enough to make some 8-bit/2600 guys buy one. but the 7800, there was some great differences for sure.

    hi everyone,
atari screwed up when they did not make the ports of 400/800 games a tad bit different on the 5200 than the 8-bit versions. just look at mario bros. for the 2600, 5200, 7800 and XEGM, what a difference all four are. they are a must to own if you are a true collector.

    hi rickr,

the c-64 had a lot of games. but the atari's were almost always better to play, and yes, the c-64 drive was a relic compared to a 1050. plus atari had a huge edge wise with their cart port compared to the c-64.

what i like is comparing the same game on different systems. it makes collecting even funner!

    hi,
yes atari really screwed up on the 5200. and they should have tweaked the games a bit to be different than the 8-bit versions. its why the 7800 was a hit, the games were different from the 8-bit and 5200 versions.

    hi, rickr,
that is the one that changed my perception of gaming. after space invaders, i had a hard time playing the early games, they seemed to easy and lacked the visuals and the experience of space invaders, which opened up my mind to use my imagination, asteroids really did that trick for me also, then pitfall, crystal castles were all ground breaking for me.
getaway on the 8-bit was a real imagination creator, food fight on the 7800 was like a 3 stooges movie to me. of course the pacmans on all atari systems. mouse trap on the 2600 is a killer. video pinball on the 2600 for its time, was a killer.

    hi everyone,
i was informed a good friend of mine back in the atari days passed away in may, a to young 70. not sure if its true, but it seems to be. in case you are wondering, john wore many hats at atari, we called him the lifer. he was the last one left when jack finally pulled the plug and sold to hasbro.
John called me the day before hasbro bought it. he hoped to get a bonus from jack for years worked. as far as i know, he never got it. here is some of his work, he started in the 8-bit days, ended with the jaguar.

    JACK T.

i once got a two hour lecture from someone at atari(will not reveal who it was, it was not jack t. but almost as high up), on the evils of video games.
i was once told that the reason why there was a lack of games, because atari was overwhelmed trying to keep up with orders for their current library.
but they once faxed out to me their entire inventory of games for all of the systems they were supporting. there were only a few titles that fit that. and they never reordered those titles.
when i tried to order 7800 euro pads from them. they said it was not their job to make them available to me. it was my job to import them from europe.
that is how i ended up dealing so much in europe. they gave me contact information for atari of europe. i think i ended up in the Netherlands.
i ordered tens of thousands, sold them like crazy to  hungry atari dealers and end users. told that to atari, they did not even blink.

    hi everyone,

now here the 7800 really shines. a proper size board was used, as well as a pokey. very smooth, very colorful, really gives the nes a run for its money. clearly a superior machine if used correctly.

XEGS version, still quite good, colorful, sounds good, smooth, but not as fleshed out as the 7800 version.

now here is where the 7800 really shines. the programmer knew his/her stuff, and most likely the choplifter is a double sprite. music good to.

now the xe version, i will include the original 16k apple port also. it will show you why this one is so bad and choppy. the apple port is a port of apple basic with machine code, its why its pink. the 1988 atari version just updated the lousy apple port. its obvious its not a complete rewrite in atari machine code.
16k apple port. choplifter was released originally as a 16k game on  cart., 48k disk. by broderbund.
