I was excited to see a review of Wizard's Dungeon on the site. To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the 7800 and NES era of games mostly due to the color palette used in many games of that era--very earthy and muted. However, I really want to try homebrews for the 7800. I'm glad I read the review. It was easy reading and provided the necessary information for me to make a decision. I will pick it up at PRGE.

  2. We are gonna be releasing Silverback's review of Wizard's Dungeon very soon... but to tide you over:

We look into several prototypes and hacks: Rampart, Star Wars, GATO, Pit Fighter

and there's a much sunnier update to the site's "Atari 7800 Biography". No more doom and gloom. It's the 7800's time to shine!

    Thanks for the love! www.Atari7800Forever.com

  3. WOO HOO!

It took us almost two years to do it, but we finally have in-depth written reviews posted for all 58 7800 official releases on the site. Some of you may or may now know, but we did the same thing back in the double aughts on a site called "Cousin Vinnie's Atari 7800 Panoramic Froo-Froo". Back in the early 2000's, I wanted to make an Atari site that was less tech oriented, but more fun and approachable for potential new fans to the system. I lost that domain, and it was a shame that I let it go. But its OK now I guess because the new site is better written, has over 100 reviews total, features more articles and is more functional. It also includes all of the old applicable articles from the old site, too. Thanks to Crossbow and Silverback for helping speed up the review process with their great reviews. Because of them, I didn't have to play some real duds, LOL.

The last game review published tonight was Tomcat... and what is hilarious is that Tomcat was the last game I reviewed of the official releases on the old site. I had no idea it was until I checked the Wayback Machine. I hate those flight sims.

Now we will focus on improving formatting, correcting typos, reviewing homebrews, hacks, oddities, and creating new interesting articles, cheat code pages, and eventually converting these reviews to Youtube videos. Thanks to anyone that enjoys the site!

  5. Atari 50th Anniversary Collection Game List

I spent some time going through that pretty pimp hype video pinpointing all of the games that will be included in this collection so far, and it looks like you can ID 40-41... there's a computer game I can't identify in one clip.

This isn't your typical nostalgic Atari cash grab... looks worth it so far.

Besides Basketbrawl, the 7800 selection looks pretty boring. I'm also surprised that no one ever contacts our hobby programmers for your awesome Homebrews. Those would be so sweet to include in these things.

  7. Spoiler

    Your Mom

People have asked me to review Moon Cresta at www.Atari7800Forever.com for years, and tonight was the night history finally happened. After playing the arcade version of Moon Cresta for a bit... it was time, once again, to give the Prosystem one a whirl. I have always hated this game. But over time... did my initial disgust recede? 8. Surprise! You dirty hookers!

Jon Stoll, Jr. (AKA Silverback) is helping me catch up on reviewing and creating content in the midst of an Atari 7800 scene that has amazingly gotten more and more frantic in the last few years. When we catch up on all of the original release reviews, we can delve into the more fun and unpredictable waters. Here's what has been recently added to www.atari7800forever.com

Silverback reviews Mario Brothers, Ms. Pac Man, Kung Fu Master, Pole Position 2. Silverback interviews Frankodragon (Roof Pooper, Fat Axl, Hearty Manslapper). Funkmaster V interviews Muddyfunster (EXO, Danger Zone, Bernie)

  9. I've been horsing around and mostly enjoying Micro Center's Atari Ultimate Dual Fight Stick with Trac Ball for a year and a half, and have had an Atari Spinner installed for a year (it was very easy to do). After all that time, I have discovered (for myself at least) which 10 games utilize the machine the best with the emulators I currently have. This is my top ten list- They are not the best games of all time, but the best on this particular hardware... that I have discovered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UwkSg8Rkqc

  10. Over the last few decades, only a small number of unreleased prototypes were discovered for the Atari 7800. Some are masterpieces, some are not playable at all. At Atari7800Forever.com, we rank the top 10 that have been found. #atari7800 http://www.atari7800forever.com/top10up.html

Brek showered me with funktastic gifts that I will reveal in the video and we will take a look at this awesome looking cart and Brek's take on the old Atari 2600 game Fast Food! #atari #atari7800

Yup. I also love that graphic that I found that put the Popeye people on the cab instead of the Nintendo characters in the DK poses. Bluto looks like DK quite a bit, too.

  13. For those who are into emulation of retro games, Trebor (from Trebor's Stuff) just updated his Atari 7800 ROM Pack for the first time in about a year. There are dozens and dozens of games, gimmicks and updates to check out. Links to java based emulators, my thoughts on a few of the updates, and the link to the ROM Pack itself is located here:

  14. In recent years, I've seen that there has been some confusion and real life tears in regards to Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest. It all stems from Bobby D astutely inventing a "C Button" for the Pro System. Here's how to fix the confusion with the game in the modern age where people use emulation more than consoles.

  16. Rikki & Vikki did a lot to prove that the Atari 7800 was capable of rendering incredible graphics and sound with amazing depth and gameplay, however it couldn't escape one of the system's issues altogether. 19. Back in the double aughts, the 7800 community was happy to become foster parents to the wayfaring, troubled 2600 cart "Save Mary". This inspired many artist renditions, scribblings, and etchings of labels, some of which exist on the internet still to this day. Tonight, I compiled the surviving images in one article and I poke fun at most of them:

FYI, the song described in Exhibit #6 of the Save Mary Box Art Gallery, "Money for Nothing," was by Dire Straits. I remember the video because it was the first fully-CG music video ever made. It was tops in the MTV Video Music Awards of that year, and I think it was 1985. I loved that song. Thanks for letting me share. :O)

  21. Marc Oberhäuser has a fun name to say and a really cool store on Etsy called AtariGameBoxes. It features the game boxes that he conjures up for homebrews, reproductions, limited releases and prototypes. He has dozens of Atari 7800 game boxes available at around $16-17 a pop (and other classic systems too). Funkmaster V ordered a handful and looks at them for the first time with you. #atarigameboxes #atari7800 #atari Check out the biggest Atari 7800 website on the planet: www.Atari7800Forever.com

I didn't know that Marc had an Etsy store. I ordered 2600 game boxes from him through AtariAge forum before -- top notch quality.

  22. Mr. raz0red has cooked up an Atari 7800 emulator so easy to use, that I put it permanently on the front page of my website. Emulation is never perfect, but you can experience so many homebrews and works in progress by simply clicking a few mouse clicks. So fun. Try to beat my scores on the boards!
