Ballistik reacted to Sabertooth in Asteroids: Recharged
    Release Date: 12/14/2021
    Retail: $9.99
    Developer(s): Adamvision & Sneaky Box
    Publisher: Atari
    Official Site: https://recharged.atari.com/
    Synopsis :
"The original space shooter warps to the modern era! Asteroids: Recharged has been reimagined for modern gameplay, with vibrant visuals, powerful new abilities, and another original soundtrack from award-winning video game composer Megan McDuffee.
It is fitting that Asteroids is in the first wave of titles to be Recharged.  Asteroids is indisputably one of the most influential video games created during the formative years of the modern video game industry. It became the highest grossing arcade cabinet when it was released in 1980, and a year later quickly established itself as the top-selling space game and top-selling shooter on the Atari 2600. You will find it in the top ten on countless “best videogames” lists.
Asteroids: Recharged creates a familiar, but revitalized and modern challenge to both old school and new high score chasers. And 40 unique and creative challenge levels take the space shooting game play into new territory, complete with local and global leaderboards.
An entirely new collection of power-ups — including spread shots, rail guns, reflector shields, and more — help players stave off splintering asteroids and aggressive UFOs. Co-op play lets you play with a friend, and ramps up the intensity as players do their best to coordinate and survive."

The first of Atari's Recharged series, Missile Command: Recharged effectively set the stage for things to come.  It takes the basic premise of the arcade original, adds power-ups, a future-retro aesthetic and an endless arcade loop.  That said, it isn't quite as full featured, lacking the challenges, co-op mode, leaderboards and controller options of the later Recharged titles.
What do you think of Missile Command: Recharged as an homage to the original?  Where does it stand in the Recharged series?  How does it rank among other updates and re-imaginings of Dave Theurer's classic?

Asteroids: Recharged on the VCS offers two controller options: Modern Controller and Classic Joystick.  Using the Modern Controller, rotation is controlled with the thumbstick, thrust is the right trigger, fire is "A" and hyperspace is the "Y".  The Classic Joystick provides some true retro flare by using built-in paddle function to rotate your craft!
I find that I'm getting my best scores using the Classic.  What's your preferred way to play?

Ok, my favorites have already changed 😉 haha! Mostly due to there being so many awesome titles released since this pst! Here goes:

    1) Tempest 4000 - Because... this is the best dang game ever, period 🙂 My new top favorite, even though I also own it on XBox One, and I have T2K on the Jag and think that's pretty amazing too
    2) Kombinera - Loving this new puzzler, developed by Atari and Graphite Lab. It's Atari's first IP in like 7+ years or something, and it's a great effort, and much appreciated by a huge puzzler fan like me
    3) Asteroids / 7800 (and all versions!) - I pick up ALL the flashback games, because I do love them all, but I've been playing Asteroids 7800 alot and also on the original console, as well. I play this then play Asteroids Recharged, as well as Asteroids on my Atari 800XL, and sometimes the 2600 version. Just love me some Asteroids lately! haha

This is what I love about the Recharged games. It really taps into that classic Atari "play a few rounds and pop in another cart" vibe!
Are you submitting one of the Centipede scores @BallistikCoffeeBoy ? If so, please take a screen of the score achieved or provide the score in the post and time stamp from the video so we know where to find it.

    My favorites:

    1) Breakout Recharged - Have liked this since it was released, and I've been playing Super Breakout on the 5200 (on the real system) too
    2) Asteroids Recharged - Can't beat Asteroids! Have been playing some version of this since 1980. Fantastic game 😉
    3) Planet Smashers (7800) - Never played this game before since it was too expensive to track down. I am finding it fun!
Aery - Bird Adventure is a close one for 3rd place. I always love playing this game to unwind and explore. Still a favorite.
This is opt to change every so often, but as of right now, this is what I've been playing.

For me the list seems to change with every new Recharged series release. As it stands today, these are my top picks:
    1) Jetboard Joust.
This was my personal pick for 2021 GOTY. Jetboard Joust takes a familiar formula and successfully layers on modern gaming elements, combined with a distinctive art style and frenetic action to create a superb arcade experience.
    2) Thrustlander.
Thrustlander is an exquisite cave flyer. It is also probably the best implementation of the Classic Joystick in any VCS game.
    3) Breakout Recharged.
Breakout Recharged is just super fun! All of the established hallmarks of the Recharged series are here but Atari seems to have perfected the formula. It may be the best Recharged game so far. It may be the best Breakout game too.
