  2. Admittedly, I am parroting this topic I seen over on Atariage because I think it could be really interesting. "Games your parents liked" Instantly when I read that I recalled a few. Keep in mind I grew up a only child in a single parent family. That said, my MOTHER though not really into videogames, she DID enjoy and even got really good at a few back in the day. Colecovision. - Mr. Do! and Ken Uston BlackJack/Poker. The Black Jack and Poker was pretty much a given but she also took to Mr. Do! to the point that we were pretty competitive. We both got to the point we could roll the score and so it was more about how many times you could roll the score, so for example if I rolled the score 3 times, I would come home and she would have beaten that and I would immediately go and beat that, over and over. At some point we pretty much just had to agree that we were both pretty amazing at Mr. Do! lol. Some time later after getting the Nintendo 8 bit system there was the usual family Duck Hunt competitions. After those systems though she pretty much lost interest.

  4. AtGames seems to churn out shoddy cheap barely good enough product that casual people keep buying due to nostalgia goggles and that is fine, it certainly is a market that seems to do well for them but their Sega emulation for example has horrid audio quality I have seen too many video and comments in forums etc, that indicate they have no real love for the classic gaming community, they simply wish to make money off it and maximize profit by using the cheapest emulation and hardware they can. In other words it is junk. There are already dozens of ways to get the same experiences of classic games either free or cheap using better or existing platforms / devices most of us already have. They always seem to rush out product. I have both the Colecovision and Intellivision Flashback systems by AtGames. Initially they had planned the included controllers to be compatible with the original systems, they are NOT. In the end they rushed them out saying perhaps in the next version which has yet to happen. Those controllers can be adapted or modded but really they should have just waited and made them compatible right out of the box as that would have added a lot more value to the Flashbacks even if it had meant adding $10 to the final cost. Also, the emulation was not the greatest, the Intellivision one seemed passable but the Colecovision though mostly passable games like MICROVISION THE HEIST literally run at about 1/2 speed making it play and sound horrid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caaLFiD1XEs

  6. https://hackaday.com/2018/10/10/atari-lynx-becomes-modern-2600-console-homage/?fbclid=IwAR3hCIAuJe-qSRXc-Lg0tLgPCdCubs5fhw5vQ0UvAaq94jpNBXxB5u3UDZQ The inspiration behind the mod was the original Atari console, the Atari 2600. [Jared’s] console mod, called the Atari Lynx 2600, utilizes a four-switch 2600 case as an enclosure. However, since the Atari 2600 joystick did not offer enough button real estate an NES controller was used instead. A male-male serial cable serves as the new controller cord, while all the buttons on the face of the Lynx are hardwired to a female DB9 port. As an added touch a custom 3D printed cartridge adapter was incorporated into the original 2600 cartridge slot. Since the Lynx did not natively support video out, and intermediary device known as the McWill LCD mod kit was used. The McWill LCD mod is typically done in order to modernize the Atari Lynx’s screen with hardware from this decade, but [Jared] used the kit in order to get VGA video output from the Lynx. Not satisfied with just VGA [Jared] also included a VGA to HDMI scaler inside to ensure a wider compatibility with current displays. Fittingly the HDMI port was placed on the back of the 2600 enclosure where the RF video used to come from. Bonus points should go to [Jared] for going the extra mile and creating a custom console box to accompany the console mod. The entirety of the project was detailed in a three-part video series, but you can watch the console in action in part 2 below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bsCzxh4wcdg

      Sad to hear this.

  9. Sorry, it was done by djpubba of Atariage a few years back and I purchased it. It used something called the longhorn engineer video mod and 7 years ago I DID take it apart and do a bad video on it with the garbage camera I had at the time with poor focus Here is my original description and video, I bought it because I thought it was cool but I do not recall now which member I bought it from. MaximumRD Published on Apr 12, 2011 Literally I take you inside my investment lol! I opened it up for those interested in getting a closer look at the guts of the unit and the modification done. I WONT BE OPENING IT AGAIN SO DON'T ASK lol! Then I hopefully follow this up with demonstrating the unit playing 2600 games as a stand alone console. It may be some time until I dig out my 5200 but when I do get around to it I will show you how it can still function on the 5200 as an adaptor even if there is not much point to it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q79DwRO4w7w Also for what it is worth my previous video was my original unboxing of the item where I talked about it and showed the ports etc. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=euPsKcOPte8

  11. HAHAHA well it is a small world in the retro gaming hobby!
  12. He actually popped in SEPT 8TH in that recent Atariage thread where the guy was sharing the Fundraiser for a couples baby to convey well wishes. Other than that yeah his participation has been very sparse over the last few years. I THINK there was also some issues with him not getting out some of the deals he made, again due to health issues but if I am recalling correctly there was some back and forth, some hard feelings etc but these are my recollections, he may of made good on all of them eventually but I think his lack of appearances on AA has to do with some of that as well. @Rick R. I have one of those NES modded pads for the 7800 as well form GoldenAxe, it is cool.
  13. Just caught THIS video. Not MINE but I thought some might be interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imjx66eJvNo Modern Vintage Gamer Published on Sep 10, 2018 The classic2magic is a device that connects up to a SNES Classic Mini or NES Classic Mini and allows any region original Super Nintendo or Super Famicom cartridges to play on the SNES Classic. How well does it work? Check out my FULL review!
  14. I cannot say 100% but I do not know why it would not be, unlike modern clones using emulators the Coleco Gemini seems to be a hardware level copy of 2600 hardware. I found only THIS info searching, it does not mention the Gemini specifically (it mentions it does not fit the Coleocovision 2600 adapter) but considering the Gemini slot seems wide enough to accommodate the Supercharger I am guessing it would be fine. "Compatibility The Supercharger is compatible with Atari 2600, Atari 2600 Jr., and the Sears Video Arcade consoles. Due to the shape of the Supercharger, it would not normally fit into the ColecoVision's Expansion Module #1, which is an adapter that allows the ColecoVision to play Atari 2600 games. However, if the cover of the expansion module is removed or an extender is used, the Supercharger will work. Extenders were sent to customers who called Starpath about such issues. The Supercharger did not work on many Atari 7800 systems (which is typically backward compatible with the Atari 2600), although it does with some early models of the system. After Atari installed a circuit to fix a compatibility issue with the 2600 version of Dark Chambers, it subsequently caused incompatibility with the Supercharger and some other games that use the FE bank switching method."
  15. Dec 2014 - Here you can see the rough shape of my Gemini, in fact I show a bent pin "repair" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1l0CijVXOw
  16. Wow back in 2011 I did this unboxing for the Coleco Gemini that I received from The GoldenAxe on atariage. I was about 30 pounds heavier as well lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIPwcdSTPuo Here is a nice lot of Gemini controllers I got previously in 2011, I HAVE YET to actually do anything with them lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-U1mIORSyyw Anyone else got the Coleco Gemini? There was an even rarer version distributed through Columbia House.
  17. We are going to see Mission: Impossible – Fallout, leaving in 15 min!

  18. Exactly WHY I post stuff like this. we are a small but awesome community here but I know many are not over on AA and so whenever I run across anything cool like this I try to search here to see if already posted and if not I post info and links about it, I try to give credit where it is due and not simply upload the file here but include the source link which seems only fair. I try to think about our community as I peruse other sites and forums. I think in this way way keep all the clutter and nonsense out while sharing the good and worthwhile stuff.
